Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Dec 05, 2014 2:04 pm Hi Guys My Husband and I are building our second home, a custom design with a custom builder in Victoria. My Husband was adamant he wanted a theatre, so we have a 4.5x4.7m room with sound proofing. We are starting to research home theatre set ups (projector system) and have no idea what we need or where to start! So what I want to know is - what do we need, screens, projectors, speakers? - are there brands that you guys would recommend We are thinking mid - high budget TIA Re: Home theatre for Dummies 2Dec 05, 2014 7:40 pm There's plenty of options to go for, just depends upon how serious you want to go with it. If the option is still there, I'd be staying away from what appears to be a fairly square room. If you want to check out some HT room projects in Australia, check out the dtvforum.info forums. I built my own HT room at my old place by converting an old two car garage shed, but in my new build I'll be building my second HT room. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Re: Home theatre for Dummies 3Dec 09, 2014 10:14 am Hi Lauz, I would start by investigating some Home theatre setups/installations like http://www.bigpicturepeople.com.au/store/ and see what is on offer and suitable for your HT room. From there you can decide what the best size Projector screen will be (e.g fixed 120 inch screen), whether a 5.1 surround system is adequate (i.e. 5 speakers plus sub woofer) and the projector types (size, prices and high definition models). Initially you should be considering the wiring for the room and if it can be done during the build (after frame stage) for convenience of running cables - Network Cat6, speakers cables to the rear, HDMI cable from the projector and where these will run back to (Equipment stand). Epson have some good Home theatre High-definition projectors, there are a lot of good speakers out there - go with what sounds the best to you. Some online VIC stores worth checking are http://www.thecableconnection.com.au/ & http://www.selby.com.au/. Lot of times you will be paying for a brand name and buying nothing special. If you want higher end look into brands like PSB, PMC, Moudant Short, Focal, B&W, Dali You can then get custom made speakers.
