Hey all

Can someone confirm something for me please as i think the sparky has stuffed up our velocity wiring....

When wiring in the velocity gear we asked to have a data point, FTA and PTV point in our lounge and media. The Fox box will be in the TV unit, but our TV will be wall mounted.

We told him we wanted a HDMI cable run through the wall so we could hook up DVD or whatever it may be. I only asked for one cable as he charges a fortune for the cable and i really have no need for more. I will simply switch the cable over if ever the need arises.

Now the question i have is should there be anything other than a HDMI cable running through the wall? By that i mean from the back of the TV to the same position that the HDMI cable comes out.

I would have thought that there would have to be more than one HDMI cable there to allow me to hook up the Fox box but the sparky reckons the Fox guy will sort that out which i am sure he probably will but how does he run it through the wall once its plastered (which it already is....)

Can someone let me know if i should be telling the sparky he has stuffed up and needs to rip the gyprock off the wall to fix his error. I dont believe he will be able to pull the cables through the walls as its a bit around the world....

Can someone help me please :(

Brad

Is the crux of your question really just this?

If so, electricians and other kinds of cablers can and do run cables through gyprocked houses every day. They just take the face plate off (or cut a hole if none existing) and go into the roof and drop the cable down the gap in the wall between the plaster and the bricks. They then come back down to earth and fish the cable out through the hole and install the face plate to neaten it all up. Or in your case where the cable just goes from one hole in the wall at TV height to a lower one at cabinet height they would just poke it through the top hole and fetch it out the bottom, or tie it to the existing HDMI cable and use that to pull it through.

So even if your electrician has forgotten cables or the fox guy also needs to run cables there is 100% no need for any plaster to be removed. No big deal.

Something i neglected to mention is that these wall plates are fitted to the sides parts of the walls that have been built out to enable the TV to go in a niche....

ie, this is the build out which will have a gas fireplace installed in the bottom. The plate is on the left side of this down the bottom.

He will be able to run the cable through there very easily once it is all done.

There is a lot of space to work with and any installer could do that and find the holes on the side no problems!
