Hi,

I recently renovated my house and during the process ran a HDMI cable inside the wall to my patio area TV from my main media area.

Now all the work is done and the walls are up and painted i have gone to setup the TV to discover the HDMI cable has been run the wrong way. At first I did not think this was possible but I have tested it and it's true.

I can't rerun the cable now and need to make this cable work is there any way of doing this with an adaptor or something?

HDMI cables are just straight-through. They don't have a direction. What problem are you getting? How did you test? If you tested with another cable then perhaps the one in the wall is damaged?

some are dirstional and need to be run the right way... you will need to re run the cable... or install a standard cable

I tested it by running a signal the other way.

I also have one of these cables left over at tested it also and it too only works one way

No amp as far as I can see. It just looks like a normal HDMI cable.

Are there any markings on the cable that indicate direction? Do you have any information on the cable (brand etc)?
How long is the cable? It sounds like it might be an 'active' cable with some sort of amplification built-in. A standard HDMI cable just connects the pins at one end to the pins at the other and therefore is independent of direction.

In theory couldn't you cut the ends off, swap them over and reconnect? I'm not sure how fine the individual strands are inside an HDMI cable, might be an exercise in frustration, might leave you with a very expensive draw wire.

OK I'll pay the "practice" half, but why not in theory? I'm assuming that whatever electronics make this an "active" HDMI cable is housed in or near the plugs, the cable itself is just cable, no?

This is so far out of my comfort zone with advice i really shouldn't bother. Is it possible to attach rope to the hdmi cable and then pull it out of the wall leaving the rope in, reverse the cable, tie it back to the rope and then pull it back through? Please feel free laugh if my advice is inappropriate.

Yes, that is the best hope - use the existing cable as a draw wire.

Worst case if you are just dealing with plasterboard you may need to cut some holes, patch and repaint.

This is the best option in my opinion.

There is no great way to do this.

Unfortunately some retailers are selling directional HDMI in longer lengths where there is really no need.

We offer a 15 metre HDMI cable with no direction on it and it works just fine.

Failing this you may be able to run a pair of cat 6 cables and use these as a transport for your HDMI if there is not enough space to get another HDMI cable through.

Another option is a wireless HDMI sender like this if all else fails:
