It comes this time every year when everything is on sale cheaper. This forum is for use if you have discovered any major discounts in anything home theatre related. Or any queries on anything you have found that appears to be a bargain!
They way retail is going, they are keen to do deals all the time, but you got to find a salesperson who wants to make a deal.
I've just spent $5,800 on split systems online with appliance central.
Before I purchased them, I gave both the good guys and Harvey Norman the chance to match/beat the advertised price.
Good guys couldn't go anywhere near it.
Harvey Norman couldn't go near it but were going to check with Fujitsu to see if they can drop their price- and then call me back. That was a fortnight ago. I chased them up a week ago, and the sales person promised to call me back ASAP to give me a update. To date I've yet to hear back from them.
Note, I have spent over $10k at each store in the past 3 years and I let them know that. And I prefer to give my business to bricks and mortar stores.
Not only did appliance central give me the lowest price without negotiating, as I made a large order they knocked $300 off the order (delivery is free for everyone).
I ordered over the phone on the weekend. Goods were Picked up from (Betta Electrical) Bonnyrig NSW on Monday.
Delivered to my house in Melbourne on Tuesday.
So in the end I did purchase from a bricks and mortar store- but a smart one who also has an online store.
Consumers are too smart these days to be ripped off.
These days you can get a great price any time, you just gotta find keen who wants to make a deal.
I never wasted any sales person time, I did all my research online and knew what I wanted before I walked into the store and gave them a chance to sell me something.
I'm building a house at the moment, and if I can save $600 spending a hour searching on google, then I've just paid for upgrading my internal doors to solid timber.
Retailers may hate the internet, but they must adapt or decline.

Great post, hits the nail on the head.
I've been casually looking around for a bigger tv - saw a 60" LG at JB for $1900, was offered it for $1700, googled on the phone and found it for $1500. Thinking if I can get it for that price at a local store I will, otherwise the online store will clearly get the sale. Just need to research the TV a little more, I seem to recall hearing not-so-good things about LG TVs a few years ago and need to find out if that advice is still current.

yeah I'm still waiting for a bigger tv, they don't know how ship anything over 74 inches over to here australia it seems without cracking the screens. I really want any over 80 inches and I'd be happy but I dunno if they will ever be able to do it!
I don't think they make anything over 65" in consumer plasmas.
I know about the 100" professional range.
I got my 65" panasonic 2D plasma 18 months ago for $2,280 with blu ray home theatre, I thought it was a great price bad then, it's still not expensive today as I could care less about 3D.
Oh yeah, coincidently- we bought 4 of the 65" plasmas at one go at the above mentioned Harvey Norman store.

Go for Samsung or Panasonic over LG.
In the past 3 years, I've purchased 8 panasonic plasmas for family and myself.
All going well.
To LG's defence, the problems with LGs plasmas were earlier models, regardless, the Panasonics have better quality picture and blacks.
If you do buy a LG I'll recommend a 5 year extended warranty.
