Looking at some options for structural wiring. Internet access is the only use. Dont have Foxtel and dont have need to stream / share media.
Currently have wireless but would like a wired option.
Have a quote for: Study: 3 data points HT: 2 data points, 1 coax Living: 2 data points, 1 coax Family: 2 data points, 1 coax Master: 1 data points, 1 coax 3 beds: 3 data points total (1 each)
All cat6. Patch panel, Clipsal harmonica
Quote: $5500.
This seems to be a lot more that what people have suggested eg. roughly $140 per run. How much should I be paying for this setup
I'd go a minimum of 2 points anywhere. And at least 4 for study and anywhere there's a tv.
Yes, the quote is pretty rich. You should be able to do alot better.

I agree that $5500 seems a bit much for what they offer. I have a quote for 20 data points, cat6 cabling and patch panel for $2200. Someone else would charge $128 per zone for data cabling + the cost for the patch panel. Either way that would be much less than what you have been quoted. You should probably get a couple of extra quotes as it looks like you are being ripped off.
Is this for a new build (in which case it about double the price it should be) or is it for an existing build?
Good point. I keep forgetting this forum is for renovators as well as new home builders!

This will be for a new build, double brick, 2 storey home in WA. Just still is research phase and not even settled on final plan yet but wanted to get an idea if it was affordable or not.

may look like noki388 is being ripped off but they havn't posted what is actually included in the full quote... and without knowing that making a judgement call on what is and what isn't a ripp off is hard to make and esp from people who like in araes that don't require the exstra work that is dealing with Double brick

Hi,
Our builder was quoting $185 per data cable - & double that if we wanted 2 to the same room.
I was polite & didn't express my views on what I thought of the cost.
umm brick vineer or double brick?
