Hey texperts!
Our house is currently under construction and I want to get the home network set up before the plaster goes on to save hassles later.
Ideally I want to run 5 cables each to 5 Ethernet port wall plate in the lounge and theatre (for TV, PS3, Xbox, Media Player etc), 2 cables to a double plate in the master bedroom and one each to the other two bedrooms. All of these will then run back to the study to connect to the router, thus giving me wired access in each of those areas. Does this sound about right?
I'm just wondering how I then set this up in the study...?
Can I get a 14 port wall plate or something for all of these cables to run to? Then how do I connect all of these from the wall to the router when most routers I have seen have nowhere near 14 ports on the back?
Anyone who knows what they are talking about have any advice? I've got the best intentions but only basic networking knowledge

You can't run anything at all you need a cabler or a electrician who is Licenced to do so to run the cables for you.
I would also run two per bedroom

for 14 ports I would geta small 19" rack and then put it on a 24 port patch panel so then you can get the cabler/ sparkie to wire up some of the ports as phone patching.

you then get a device called a Switch that has 16 ports on it that connects to the modem/ router or Stand alone Router depending on how you are connected to the Internet...
btw please don't take offense by my assumption that you are going to DIY.. but the way you have worded your question to me reaks of a DIY job

Thanks for the reply Pugs.
I'm not planning on DIY'ing the work, my brother-in-law is a qualified security installer/cabler and will be doing the installation. I'm just after information so that I can go to him with a fair idea of what I want and how to achieve it.

Definitely go more network points than you reckon you'll need, coz i can guarantee that you'll want to expand at some point, probably in the not too distant future.

Cmon Pugs ...
Personally I recommend 4 points to each TV location and 2 to each other location.
This gives you plenty of flexibity now and in the future.
I've posted that info enough times around various forums that people should use search instead of asking each time.
