Looking forward to seeing the backyard develop. Stefan Building the M3tr!con Liberty 42 at Stonecutters Ridge. The New Build Blog - "Life, In Progress." Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ All Hills Fencing did a great job. Even our other tradies (landscapers, electricians etc) were impressed with how good and solid the fence is. And they were our cheapest quote as well! The Exterior landscapers have started today and we should have a front garden by the end of the week - yay! Now I just need to start on my garden beds and sow my green manure crop for the winter. After 4 years - we're in! Re: Our Impression 38 Mk II (43) - landscaping 748Apr 30, 2010 5:12 pm Front landscaping was completed today - though for some reason Exterior (the landscapers) swapped out the nice colourful native plants on our design for grassy (most likely cheaper) ones. I have sent them an email asking for an explanation. Re: Our Impression 38 Mk II (43) - landscaping 750May 01, 2010 6:37 pm Beautiful SC, was the preparing of the soil for turf including in your landscaping package? or did you have to organise that yourself? how much did it cost you for the fencing from All Hills Fencing? PM me if you like MadCow Re: Our Impression 38 Mk II (43) - landscaping 751May 01, 2010 8:03 pm Hey MadCow! Exterior (and other landscape companies) wanted nothing to do with Fu Manchu-style preparation of the lawn. They wanted to excavate down, fill with top soil then put SW buffalo on top. Weren't interested in using Empire Zoysia at all. So I organise a bobcat (Bilbie's bobcat - details I think are on my blog somewhere), added sand, gympsum, zeolite, organic certified soil and worked it all in down to a depth of 40cm. Happy to give you the prices - All Hills Fencing for hardwood lap & cap with steel posts is $75/m. I think that was the best price we found, and other places were charging the same but for wood posts (which means the fence will eventually warp more quickly and end up leaning). Pool fencing was $95/m. If you need retaining walls, they can do that with the fence for cheap. I had 20m length of retaining 20cm high for $350m. Wouldn't be too hard to do a bigger retaining wall (they use treated pine sleepers). The quality of the fencing job is fantastic. The landscapers said that it was the best lap & cap fence they'd seen - usually they're leaning and not straight just after they've been installed! After 4 years - we're in! Re: Our Impression 38 Mk II (43) - landscaping 752May 03, 2010 1:47 pm Thankfully Exterior have agreed to replace the incorrect plants with the ones specified. Apparently the designer thought their selection would look better and fill the space more. However - strappy grasses don't really attract nectar seeking birds like grevillea and bottlebrush do. I think I'll end up buying some more plants/tubestock myself since the voucher doesn't really go that far (not surprisingly!) After 4 years - we're in! Re: Our Impression 38 Mk II (43) - landscaping 753May 03, 2010 1:52 pm Glad to hear that everything has been straightened out! I can vouch for the birds - our last place had grevilleas and a bottlebrush tree, and we constantly had lorikeets in our yard. Stefan Building the M3tr!con Liberty 42 at Stonecutters Ridge. I really would like it to be perfect right now - but give it 6 months and I plan to have everything done - curtains, furniture in all the rooms, gardens. I can't bear to have an unfinished project that people see all the time (we get plenty of people walking past). After 4 years - we're in! Re: Our Impression 38 Mk II (43) - landscaping 756May 05, 2010 1:12 pm man - whoever said building the house was the hard part was wrong! The interior decorating I believe will drive me mad! I've just put together the guest room today: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ On the way is a new lounge & we have a new dining table (12 seater). I've done lawns, front gardens and fences. Still on my to do list: Window dressings Furniture for home office Buffet for dining room Shelving for upstairs library Pavers/tiles for front portico and alfresco Air hockey table for games room Shelves/racks in garage Finding the perfect dinner set & glassware for dining table (a nice fancy Wedgewood or similar) Espaliered fruit trees (happening when they arrive in winter) Washing line Raised veggie beds Outdoor table setting - large for downstairs, small for upstairs balcony The list seems to be growing daily - I'm actually getting sick of looking at lighting/furniture/other homewares places on the weekend. My strategy is to do it all within 12 months (we're at the 7 week mark) so I can finally RELAX! After 4 years - we're in! Re: Our Impression 38 Mk II (43) - landscaping 757May 09, 2010 8:37 am I really like that bed. Your guests are going to be spoiled with that view!
