Browse Forums Building A New House Re: First timers - Smart Homes for Living in Wellard 102Mar 29, 2017 4:10 pm Got our first report back from our building inspector today after he went to look at the slab. Seems to have got the all clear although he did note he suspected it exceeded the allowable tolerance for levelness but said no remedial work was required. Have passed his notes on to the builder anyway. Also got a variation request in the mail from the builder asking if we could sign off on them changing our garage access door from a Solidor to a fibreglass door. I'm guessing it's because the outside of the door is pretty exposed to the elements and the fibreglass won't warp or require as much maintenance as a wooden door. Have asked them for some more info but seems like a reasonable change to me on face value. Have to try and duck out of work early tomorrow for a site meeting with our SS. Hoping to see bricks and potentially some brickwork with any luck. We did pop by last weekend but there wasn't much to update. The soakwells had been installed and there were poles sticking out the ground showing where they had been put in Tomorrow could be our last visit for a while, unless we decide to drop by on Saturday again. Fly out Japan in the early hours of Sunday morning and won't be back until the end of April. The inspector didn't seem too concerned and despite the report saying no remedial work is required Smart Homes are now investigating it further and have asked for the full report so happy with their response. Our pre-start consultant also messaged us today to wish us well for our trip and the wedding which i thought was a nice touch as it was only mentioned once when she initially asked if we would be away at all during the build. And thank you too for the well wishes. The wedding date is closing in fast and I still don't have the Japanese phrases I need to say in the ceremony memorised yet Plenty of train travel time across the country to get them nailed down though! Wasn't expecting to see much work done but the brickies have already been hard at work. SS said it will take them 2 weeks to finish the bricks and then they will start working on getting the roof on They will also send us photos to keep us updated while we are away. They've worked out that rear the garage access door will hit the retaining wall when it's opened so they want us to sign off on a variation to move the door 90mm. So wasn't really a big issue... 😂 Our build thread with Smart Homes for Living in Wellard https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=86092 Re: First timers - Smart Homes for Living in Wellard 116Apr 06, 2017 5:21 pm It's coming along nicely SB, guess you will be a changed man when you come back i.e. tied up for the rest of your life :lol:.
