Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 13, 2016 10:59 am Hello All, My wife and I are building our first home in Truganina (western suburbs of Melbourne), we have selected the Dunedin 29 with the Rhode Island Aston facade by Porter Davis. We loved the display home at Aston with the open living and massive master bedroom. Our SC has been really helpful in extending the bedroom and redesigning the ensuite and WIR, and also adding an additional powder room to the home. The current promotion as part of Lifestyle range has some great inclusions with stone-bench tops and tiles to the ceiling, etc. This is our first time building and we are really excited and equally nervous. But, we love the house and the plan, and left a deposit of $2K and signed up for building the Dunedin. Just last weekend, we visited world of style and got blown away . It was overwhelming looking at the options and hefty price tag upgrades come with. The realisation of making our build look like the display is now far-fetched . Has any one else built the Dunedin 29 with the fengshui option? I can see joea has built the same home but a different design viewtopic.php?f=31&t=71518. I am not sure about the stone bench tops (included in the promotion) and kitchen cabinets. Just wondering if you guys can throw your thoughts, warnings, before I get stuck into the unknown. Is anyone else building the same house? your thoughts on windows, ceiling heights and the facade. Looking forward to hear from you guys. Heads-ups and warnings please . Re: Building Dunedin 29 (Feng Shui) With Porter Davis 2Jan 06, 2017 12:47 pm Hi Congratulations on signing up with PD. My husband and I are building the Dunedin 31 with the Feng Shui and Rhode Island facade. We are almost at contract stage just finalising the last few changes. The idea of the powder room sounds great that is the only thing we don't have that I really wanted. It wasn't an option when we first signed up in the middle of last year. The world of styles place is definitely very overwhelming and we have certainly spent more in upgrades/changes than we wanted and we haven't done anything extravagant. These are some of the structural changes upgrades we have done 3 car garage 600mm eaves around the house Grand alfresco Boutique stacker doors Added some doors inside the house Did a double shower in the ensuite Raked celling in living area Linen closet Upgrades we did at world of style Front door Carpet and underlay (cat 3) Floorboards (cat 2) Tiles, we have done floor to ceiling (this wasnt included in our promotion) and upgraded all of our tiles Taps - black fixtures in our ensuite, chrome throughout the rest of the house Basins and toilets We also spent a bit in the kitchen with a silk and textured finish to the cabinetry, and changed it to have no handles We also added a stone bench top, sink and base cabinetry to the gallery kitchen We also went through birk blinds for our blinds and added the honeywell security system with 8 cameras Now that I have listed it, there a few upgrades but so hard to not upgrade to actually build a house you will be happy with Re: Building Dunedin 29 (Feng Shui) With Porter Davis 3Jan 06, 2017 1:45 pm Hi Grechie, Great to hear that!!! We loved the Dunedin 31 display at Upper Point Cook. The house is beautiful and will Rhode Island, its going to look spectacular and the upgrade just sound fantastic. We weren't able to secure a bigger lot, so happy with Dunedin 29. The raked ceiling sounds super exciting on your upgrades. The dunedin doesn't have an additional powder room option (still), but we insisted and our SC was very considerate and took the time to change the floor plan to extend the bedroom, change the ensuite layout and also add the additional powder room from the rumpus. We still haven't received the call/been allocated a BC, but have visited WOS few times. Might upgrade the front door, carpet underlay and just the stone benchtop. lizbf85 http://www.homeone.com.au/member/lizbf85 has provided us some valuable advice in that matter. We are looking at getting the silk finish draws only addition to the kitchen. IKEA has some great ideas and want to fit in one of their kitchen's into our galley . We are also looking at upgrading our tiles in ensuite and guest bath and that is coming up quite expensive , but loving the style. Do keep us posted on how the contract goes. Were there any additional costs for 6 star energy rating due to the raked ceiling? We are getting a coffered ceiling, just like the one at Dunedin 29 Aston. Re: Building Dunedin 29 (Feng Shui) With Porter Davis 4Jan 07, 2017 1:07 pm Hi, Congrats on your impending build. We are building the Vancouver 33 and have our WoS appointment on Monday. Like you we have visited WoS and realised it costs A LOT of money to make it anything like the display homes. We are planning to have a lot of upgrades in the kitchen as this is the main part of the home for us and I have fallen in love with the colourtech kitchen displayed at WoS. We know we will have to upgrade the carpets as the cat 1 are awful and the cat 2 are not much better. Others have said that upgrading the underlay makes a big difference. We are only going to have carpet in the bedrooms so I'm really not to fussed about it. In our promo it says that it includes full wall tiles for the 2 walls adjoined to the shower, so I'm guessing we will have to pay extra for the other walls or it will just look silly. Also in the en suite the shower touches 3 walls so I don't know how that will work. We are planning to do a lot of electrical stuff after handover as what PD charge for down lights its just ridiculous. We will have them do the additional power points and TV points but thats about it. I fell in love with the Rhode island facade but decided the extra money would be better spent inside the house. I am hoping ot keep to a grey / white colour palette on the facade to give as close a look as possible. Re: Building Dunedin 29 (Feng Shui) With Porter Davis 5Jan 13, 2017 11:37 am Hi Nikil, Great to hear that and KUDOS!! How did you WOS appointment go? Vancouver 33 is a beautiful house. Good luck with Colortech, I heard the upgrades would not be in 100's but in 1000's, and I decided I will go with the basics. Good thought with carpets, just in the master bed we are getting CAT 3 carpets with CAT 2 underlay, while all through the house we are getting CAT 1 carpets with CAT 3 underlay (waterproof and extra cushion), I made a quick calculation and that isn't gonna be much. Tell me about the wall tiles, the ones I like are $85 psqm and our shower has walls on the 3 sides. It is going to be bloody expensive but will look beautiful when done. Yeah absolutely agree with the facade, we had to go with Rhode island as we are getting coffered ceiling and Rhode Island is the only facade that can accommodate, and our facade is the out of boundary facade, meaning we wouldn't be getting the pillar on the sides of the front door, but on the sides of the garage - which in turn makes the master bedroom bigger. Let us know how your appointment went. Have you decided on the stone bench tops? Cheers!! Re: Building Dunedin 29 (Feng Shui) With Porter Davis 6Jan 16, 2017 11:14 am Our WoS went very well, made a few upgrades, our main expense was the kitchen but we knew it would be. We are very happy with all our choices. Now I just want it built!! I've got some pricing and all our choices on my blog if you want to have a look. We decided on Cat 3 Lyra stone for the kitchen, the bathrooms we stuck with Cat 1 (the white one, I can't remember the name). Re: Building Dunedin 29 (Feng Shui) With Porter Davis 7Jan 16, 2017 3:24 pm Thanks Nikil, had a look at the options and the pricing. Pretty good. What was the tile (name/number) you had selected? is it just the floor tile? and what about the wall titles in the wet areas? Re: Building Dunedin 29 (Feng Shui) With Porter Davis 8Jan 16, 2017 4:40 pm Ashik_09 Thanks Nikil, had a look at the options and the pricing. Pretty good. What was the tile (name/number) you had selected? is it just the floor tile? and what about the wall titles in the wet areas? We have the large tile on floor and walls in the ensuite (except for the shower back wall which will be the other plain grey tile) the main bath is the large tile on the floor and the other grey one on the walls. The small light grey subway tile is for the kitchen splashback. The large tile is elite travertine silver grey Matt, the other tile is cool grey something I don't have the details for this on me.
