Browse Forums Building A New House Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Flooring begins 922Apr 02, 2017 9:38 am ^^; I think the only way for me to be happy is for the keys to be in my hand. I'm very stressed about completion.. I'm suppose to be getting my new kitty in two weeks, and have no where to keep her.... my sister is suppose to be staying with me for the last week of April... no where for her to stay.. plus all the furniture places keep calling me to demand I pick up my stuff, but I have no where to put any of it.. my storage unit is full. I really need to tell work this week if I'm moving my leave, but I have no idea when to move it to. And.. all this waiting is very expensive. Its cutting into my post handover funds.. at this stage, I won't be able to afford to do anything once I move in.. I'm really really hoping the rest of your build goes smoothly and is stress free for you. You've put up with so much and deserve to have those keys in your hand as soon as possible x Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Flooring begins 924Apr 03, 2017 9:38 am I like the tiles Dawn.. but sad it is not your choice... I have Mocha on my kitchen splash back and matching grout.. have a look if you would like to get an idea on grout colour... Even if you going to accept the wrong tiles, make sure to let the builder know they got it wrong and you are doing a big favour... Don't stress too much about the mess around the house.. it will be fixed or easily fixable... Hope to see more progress... Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Flooring begins 926Apr 04, 2017 6:08 pm Had a voicemail from my builder today. He said he checked invoice for tiles, and they are definitely the right ones. I don't agree, but I also don't care enough as I'm not asking for them to change them.. Apparently tiling will be complete tomorrow and shower screens are booked to go in next. Not sure if I will bother to go down this weekend and see the completed tiles... we'll see. Also told that they will email me a completion date today or tomorrow, I really hope so, but won't hold my breath. I'll call them tomorrow if I don't get anything.. as I need to sort out my leave ASAP with work. Here's hoping the date is end of April and not May. Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Flooring begins 927Apr 04, 2017 6:41 pm Dawn shower screens are one of the last things to go in from what I've seen on here... surely you should be in soon?? Is it just the main floor that is complete or does that include splash backs too? GJ Gardner Modified Coolum 277 http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=83643 Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Flooring begins 928Apr 04, 2017 6:58 pm I believe tiling includes splashback, bathroom and floor tiles, but didn't ask. I would hope so though. If that's the case and shower screens are done this week as well, then I think things to do list is: Internal: - Tapware - Kitchen sink - Appliances - Hot water - Split system - Carpet - Lighting - NBN, powerpoints, TV antenna, etc - Heating control - Door handles - Flyscreens - Towel rails & toilet roll holders - Defects/finish painting - Wardrobe doors - Garage door External: - Driveway - Concreting around sides - Front fence - Lights - Clean up concrete damage Gosh I hope its soon. I really hope I am in by the end of April... which would give them .. 4 weeks to finish everything including this week, but there are 3 public holidays in there too.. *fingers crossed* Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Flooring begins 930Apr 04, 2017 7:39 pm I really don't want to go see the house again.. but at the same time I want to see completed tiles and shower screens. I'm worried the shower screens and/or tiles might have been screwed up. Although I can't see the bathrooms from outside anyways.. Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Flooring begins 931Apr 04, 2017 9:14 pm Starting to put together lists and plans for the big move. I need to come up with one for PCI, but what do you think of this list for move in? Anything I'm missing?
On move in day or soon after
Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Flooring begins 932Apr 04, 2017 9:19 pm I think from your list surely PCI should only be 2 weeks away at max with handover a week after? 4 weeks and you could be in hun GJ Gardner Modified Coolum 277 http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=83643 Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Flooring begins 933Apr 04, 2017 9:46 pm Why on earth would you need to change the locks? Don't the builders in Victoria use builder's keys? Also, the builder should show you how to operate all the doors, windows, appliances etc during pci. At least that happened in my case. Most builders use them. It allows the builder and their trades to access your lock (and the lock of all their other builds) during construction with a single generic "construction" key. At handover the real key is used by yourself for the first time and it triggers an extra pin in the tumbler to drop making the construction keys inoperable. Just ask the builder if he uses construction keys or project keys. Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Flooring begins 935Apr 05, 2017 10:54 am It is now standard with lockwood.. so if your lock is lockwood brand, you don't even need to ask the builder... Lockwood issues builder key and owner key.. the owner key comes in an envelope with a clear warning "Do not use this key anytime before handover" When you use the owner's key for the first time, you can actually hear the clicking noise that triggers the pin.. (That's when you have a BIG smile on your face) Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Flooring begins 936Apr 05, 2017 6:04 pm Oh, wow thanks guys! I didn't know about that. I looked up some websites for things to do after handover, they were mostly American.. but if I don't have to change locks even better. Will find out from the builder. I hope the builder shows me how to use stuff! Hehe, our current house doesn't have a dishwasher.. or garage.. XD and this will be my first time using a gas cooker so that will be interesting. Oh.. and first time with ducted heating. I can't wait!!!! I'm so looking forward to my shower... hot water.. with like real actual pressure. Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Flooring begins 938Apr 05, 2017 6:14 pm I spoke to my builder this afternoon. The tiling throughout has been completed, plumbing fit out is this Friday (which I believe is basins, taps, etc), shower screens have been measured and will be installed shortly. Starting to feel real!!!! I'm going to go down this weekend, I really want to see how my splashback looks. Hope it is nice. I picked white tiles laid subway with a dark grey grout. No completion date yet, but most likely house will be ready around the first 2 weeks of May. Would have been end of April but too many public holidays. So.. roughly 4-5 weeks to go. I'm going to move my leave to 3rd and 4th week of May... just in case they are running a bit behind.. *fingers crossed* Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - 2 years, 10 months to build house 940Apr 05, 2017 7:19 pm Yep add a little buffer time after the building work ends for defect repairs, council inspections and bank valuations and the like. I work with owner, he/she is my man on the ground and I instruct them when to visit the site and take photos and I have other tools in the bag. 4 15459 I am in the same situation, would you be able to give some insights in to this? I am in SA 8 17209 Depends what you're current inclusions are, but we're not including wardrobes and will just use second hand ones until we can save later on to get them built. Also have a… 3 11847 |
