Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Reflections 423Jan 02, 2017 9:24 am Those paper blinds sound like a great idea Rosemi... at least temporarily so I can move in. I feel your pain Monique. I got a quote about a year ago using rough plans, but for blinds and curtains, the quote came in at 7.5k!! Way too much. I think I know what I want... but its all going to depend on price, so I need quotes!! Into Blinds has offered to do a quote for me off plans, but they are in Thomastown, so just debating if I want to travel that far. Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Reflections 424Jan 02, 2017 9:25 am Do you like that they are big or small Reg? XD I actually thought I'd settled on 1.8m wide for the living room, so happy to see it ended up at 2.1m. I purposely raised the living room window about 40cm off the floor, since I wanted to be able to put things under it.. (plus I thought kids kicking a soccer ball in the backyard...) Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Reflections 426Jan 02, 2017 9:33 am So I have a few thoughts about window treatments, but will depend on price. Plan 1: Sidelight to Entry - Nothing Master Bedroom - Plantation Shutters with sheers Bedroom 2 (guest room) - Plantation Shutters Bedroom 3 (study) - Plantation Shutters En Suite (obscured) - Nothing (though I'd love shutters) Bathroom (obscured) - Nothing (though I'd love shutters) Laundry (sliding door) - Nothing (though possibly in the future will do something if it gets too hot) Kitchen - Plantation Shutters (though probably not possible due to tap ware, so roller blind) Living - Eyelet curtains Dining (sliding door) - Eyelet curtains Plan 2: Sidelight to Entry - Nothing Master Bedroom - Plantation Shutters with sheers (if I really can't have shutters, then curtain and sheers) Bedroom 2 (guest room) - Double roller blinds, one privacy, one block out Bedroom 3 (study) - Double roller blinds, one privacy, one block out En Suite (obscured) - Nothing (though I'd love shutters) Bathroom (obscured) - Nothing (though I'd love shutters) Laundry (sliding door) - Nothing (though possibly in the future will do something if it gets too hot) Kitchen - Single Roller Blind Living - Eyelet Curtains Dining (sliding door) - Eyelet Curtains Have a feeling I will end up going option 2 just due to price. But I'd love shutters throughout... its so hard to decide though, I'd think about putting shutters in the living and dining too... I like the neatness of them. I like that they are big and are in East and North..so lot of morning sunlight... I love the morning sunlight. Originally the kitchen window was south facing, but then my plans had to be flipped for the driveway, which I'm actually happy about. I was at one stage thinking of adding additional windows to the living room wall (South facing now), just like two tall windows but really narrow so they'd be either side of the TV.. but I'm glad I didn't. After being in the house, there's plenty of light in the open end of the house just how it is and it gives me plenty of room for the TV unit and such now. Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Reflections 429Jan 02, 2017 9:59 am Just a thought from a security point of view in regards to the sidelight at your front entry, as a single woman living on your own, do you really want people (read perverts or other shady characters) to be able to see you moving about inside your house? You may want to consider putting sheers there at the very least or maybe tinting that prevents people seeing in (at night in particular). I got a rough quote based on measurements i provided, then someone came over for a proper measure using a laser style tape measure as its more accurate. The laser picked up that on a couple of windows, from one end left to to right wasnt 100% straight( might have been off by half a mm or mm and not visible to the naked eye) but it makes a world of difference when getting them made or they wont sit flush. The final quote ended up being cheaper than the first quote I got based on my figures. Also try and find a company that will match or undercut other quotes too. I also want to get the master bedroom windows tinted, both for privacy and sun protection. At the moment I want quotes more for my own peace of mind and so I can work through my finances... but I also want my window treatments up as soon as possible once I have keys.. particularly for the bedroom. Finding it hard to pick a colour or fabric for the curtains.. maybe an off white or light grey..with some texture. Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Reflections 432Jan 02, 2017 2:22 pm Saw my house. Have I told you lately how much I love my house? I hugged it... Not much has changed since we were last out there. Only thing I noticed was the plaster board above the kitchen cupboards, but I may have just missed that last time. No painting has happened ;; Seems to have withstood the recent storms well, not too much dirt has washed into the street. I measured up the windows from the outside, and all seem to match the energy rating except for the kitchen window which appears to be 1200x1200, rather than 1200x1500. Not a big deal, but good to know before I go getting quotes. (On a side note, the width of the kitchen window was the only one actually stated on the plans, at 1500mm, because it was to match the length of the benchtop which I extended from 1200 to 1500). Approx 7 weeks till I get the keys. Eee, time is going to slow. Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Reflections 433Jan 02, 2017 4:18 pm Glad you found your window measurements We gave the measurement from plans to the place is doing our blinds but she's coming to do a measure up beforehand to make sure it's accurate. Glad you love your house!! 7 weeks will be here before you know it and who knows the tradesmen booked into do your house might be broke from the break so they might smash it out quicker to get money GJ Gardner Modified Coolum 277 viewtopic.php?t=83643 Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Reflections 434Jan 02, 2017 4:44 pm Me too! That's pretty much what I want.. just quote, then they can come do a proper measure. Tempted to order shutters, blinds and curtains online, but I don't trust my measurement skills XD I just don't want to pay more than 3-4k... I only have like 6 windows that I need done..shouldn't be too expensive. Eee.. D True. Hopefully the progress is just as good after Christmas, as it was beforehand. I could be in anytime from mid-Feb I think. Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Reflections 435Jan 02, 2017 4:45 pm Going down to get a storage unit in the morning, then moving furniture across in the afternoon. Apparently the storage place will give me 10 free boxes DD Then I can finally start packing (kind of). Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Reflections 436Jan 02, 2017 5:19 pm For our house it's like $5k for roller blinds for our 13 windows not including the panel glider blinds for the corner stackers too Is the storage unit for all the new furniture you have acquired? Yay for packing GJ Gardner Modified Coolum 277 viewtopic.php?t=83643 Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Reflections 437Jan 02, 2017 5:31 pm That doesn't seem too bad a price, but still a lot. I was quoted 7.5k for blinds throughout and curtains for the back windows from one place. I just about died when I got the quote. It didn't even include the shutters I want for the front room. I might be able to go to Wynstan tomorrow and get a quote, shall have to wait and see how I go for time. Yup. Will just be the bedroom suite and TV unit in there, plus some boxes. 10 boxes should be more then enough for me to do all my packing, originally wasn't planning to use boxes. A lot of things (appliances and such) are already in boxes... but things I'm not using can go to the storage unit for the time being. Not long to go now!!! (exciteeeeed) Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Reflections 438Jan 02, 2017 5:44 pm Boxes! Did someone say boxes? Argh! Boxes everywhere on my place at the moment... This is just some of them - 13 boxes here alone... full of books & craft stuff Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ View thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=83776&start=80 Building SOR with Dreamstart Homes Customised Dream Dior/Summer Sensation https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=83776 Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Reflections 439Jan 02, 2017 5:55 pm Hehe! That's a lot of boxes. I planned to just move things in my car, so wasn't planning to use boxes really. I didn't use them when I moved to my apartment, but a couple would make things easier. I have got rid of a lot of stuff since I moved into my apartment. I had to move 300+ books.. that was the worst!! Now I only own about 20 books XD. The good thing is, with the storage unit.. I can box things up and drop them off at the storage unit over the next few weeks.. will help clear out a lot of the stuff around the house. I am planning to leave behind a lot of my stuff for my parents (hehehe...) they are planning to do a garage sale after I move out anyways, so they will sell off what they don't want to keep for themselves. Boxes are hiding everyone (under the bed is full of boxes... and TV box is hiding in the back corner). There's also some boxes and luggage hiding in a hall closet, under the spare bed..and potentially there's a man size pile of appliances in the middle of the hall XD There's a cat scratching post under my desk... Mhm, probably time to starting packing Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Reflections 440Jan 03, 2017 2:37 pm Feeling supremely stressed ;-; Got the storage unit.. cost $600 for 3 months There goes all the savings I made on choosing my furniture. At least everything is tucked away in the unit now and I got some boxes to pack. Then I went to pick out a fabric colour for my couch, not sure of my choice... but when I tried to pay off the couch, was some confusion over the total invoice price.. *sigh* I just wish I'd never got started on any of this stuff now. Have also sent emails to two blind companies for quotes... and then dad says "oh we could install them" *facepalm* that's not what he said earlier..
