Didn't realise this would be the case, so what happens now? They also have on our plan that we want them to install our fans but we've decided to get a mate to do it for us to save $$, can we remove that cost from the plan? Downlights are really expensive to do with the builders. I'm definitely not going to do it with the builder as they charge about $125-$130 per downlight versus $75 for a batten holder. It's cheaper as you said you have a mate (hopefully a licensed electrician) to change over the batten holders to downlights post handover. In regards to the fan you will need to ask the builder to put in extra timber support. If I'm correct and please happy to accept I'm wrong the fan only requires a batten holder and put on a separate switch. Hope that helps. Anyone? That depends on your builder. Usually it's one double Power point in each room and one light batten holder. Also are you guys getting usb points in your power outlets or do you think its a waste of time due to technology continually changing? I've made a provision for intercom but I'm not letting the builder do it at all. Rip off! Do it post handover. Not doing USB either. Things will always change. I'm planning to get downlights post handover. I'm told it would be difficult to get that done later on the ground floor ceiling due to restricted space. Also Would that conflict with any warranty? Re: Clipsal 8Aug 07, 2017 5:32 pm Calvin McCoy Hey Bruce, found you again here while searching for downlights! I'm planning to get downlights post handover. I'm told it would be difficult to get that done later on the ground floor ceiling due to restricted space. Also Would that conflict with any warranty? Calvin, For my new home yet to be built I've made provisions on where I will be putting my downlights on the ground floor by putting in light batten holders. This means the wires and everything is already there and all you need to do is get your electrician to drill a 90mm hole and change it over post handover. Hope the advice helps as always. I will try getting quotes from licensed electricians for doing the whole nine yards if that would be cheaper than getting batten holders in the first place. Re: Clipsal 11Aug 07, 2017 5:38 pm Calvin McCoy Thanks Bruce. I will try getting quotes from licensed electricians for doing the whole nine yards if that would be cheaper than getting batten holders in the first place. Are your based in Sydney? I can refer to you a good licensed electrician if you are interested.
