Browse Forums Building A New House Re: We are building VANCOUVER 33 with PORTER DAVIS 141Feb 28, 2017 4:36 pm I've also heard that they have now changed the process to having your tender appointment before even going to world of style! I think that's ridiculous as the whole idea of the tender is to check that all your selections are correct. Yes one small step closer. I just want it to start to be honest. Re: We are building VANCOUVER 33 with PORTER DAVIS 142Feb 28, 2017 4:40 pm Sgene85 Thanks Liz Nikil for your input on the windows/sliding door. Are you guys doing your curtains/blinds with PD or outside PD? Any recommendations on blinds? We met with Dollar Curtains over the weekend, it was quite pricey. How much roughly was the industrial stacker if you dont mind me asking? also is it on any of the displays? Thank you, yes we had our selections back in September last year, lol so its been a while. We are trying to see if we can get the Fisher and Paykel appliances from the latest promotion in lieu of Blanco appliances from Seize the Dream. I am glad to hear that there wasnt any surprises from your contract. When do you guys start to build? You must be pretty excited!! We found dollar not that cheap either. We went with superb window furnishings they have been so helpful and have a range of different furnishings. Shutters, romans , sheers etc the price was great for the whole house approx 15 windows. I think the stacker was 1000 or so. All the displays have them a standard probably isnt even on display they are just a very thin version of ours. Its funny i was having that conversation with a friend yesterday. We wondered how long they keep the old promo of appliences for customers who have been building a while. In our case some would already be getting the new f&p. I meant to ask our 3rd bc today!!! I can only imagine the headache that causes having to make sure everything is spot on! Then to not even confirm site till after contract on top. Put it this way if that was now we wouldn't have built with them. Too many unknowns Yep i remember that feeling. Now i just want it over!! Re: We are building VANCOUVER 33 with PORTER DAVIS 146Feb 28, 2017 5:07 pm Hmm now I'm wondering what we have. Re: We are building VANCOUVER 33 with PORTER DAVIS 148Feb 28, 2017 5:11 pm Just checked and ours is just the included 'Aluminium stacker door, 2400 high by 3000 wide. Yeh so the second one i posted. Is that what u were after? Another lady on the forum only noticed that she didnt have the boutique post contact. And she was told that was the standard door. Jerks Re: We are building VANCOUVER 33 with PORTER DAVIS 150Feb 28, 2017 5:21 pm Yea I'm pretty sure we were told the one in the display is the standard.. I can't be sure though. We got a quote on blinds though Birk via Porter Davis and it was so expensive. We are probably going through LifeBlinds instead https://www.facebook.com/lifeblinds/?fref=ts Re: We are building VANCOUVER 33 with PORTER DAVIS 154Feb 28, 2017 7:14 pm We also got a ridiculous quote from Birk. I wouldn't be going near them. I think they bank on people just saying oh we'll just add it to the mortgage.. Re: We are building VANCOUVER 33 with PORTER DAVIS 155Feb 28, 2017 8:16 pm nikil Our OHS fees were only around $3000 which really surprised me! Yea I'm always wary that the site costs can change, but there really isn't a lot we can do about it. If it goes to high and we couldn't proceed then the contract is subject to finance so we could get out that way if we really have to. They have added a lot to the slab so I'm very hopeful that they have really aired on the side of caution and they don't have to increase. I've heard of quite a few people now that didn't have them done until after Contract and some even had money returned. We are in a similar situation where we have our contract app tomorrow and they haven't been able to do the final soil test as our land title date has been delayed in our estate. So we are signing knowing it may go up, we do have wiggle room if it does go up but not if it blows completely out!! Is the contract subject to finance or did you request it? Our bc wouldn't give us an answer if we could back out if it blew out to beyond our budget. As standard the contract is subject to finance, which we found out today so yours will be the same I imagine. When do you expect your land to title? Which house are you building? How have you found the process so far? I have to say so far it's all been positive for us except a slight hiccup with our demolition which really didn't turn out to be a hiccup more of a miscommunication. But with PD it's been all good so far. Re: We are building VANCOUVER 33 with PORTER DAVIS 157Feb 28, 2017 8:52 pm nikil thejuros nikil Our OHS fees were only around $3000 which really surprised me! But with PD it's been all good so far. We are building the randwick24 and land is another month off I'd say. We are the same we have been lucky to have a fantastic sales guy who went beyond what he had to to alter things for developers and our BC has been fantastic too, we are pretty easy going and expect there to be things that go wrong here and there but with an independent inspector hopefully we can get through it with minimal hiccups. But as a lot of others going through disasters with their builds it really is pot luck in whose managing your build & the trades that determine a positive or negative build... Hopefully things stay positive for you guys Re: We are building VANCOUVER 33 with PORTER DAVIS 158Feb 28, 2017 8:55 pm It really does seem pot luck, some people with PD have fantastic experiences and others disasters, same with any builder we have looked at. Only time will tell, I'm trying to be relaxed about it and conscious that things can and might go wrong. I think keeping positive is the main thing and focusing on the end result. Re: We are building VANCOUVER 33 with PORTER DAVIS 159Mar 01, 2017 8:32 am Sgene85 Hey All, What did you guys end up doing with the Alfresco? Did you do the cornerless? We are thinking of changing the 'Dining to alfresco' and 'rumpus to alfresco' windows into sliding doors but not the cornerless as it was a little too expensive. What did you guys do? Did you keep the windows or upgraded them to sliding doors? If so, what kind of sliding doors and how much roughly? Thanks We changed to boutique sliding doors from dining/rumpus to alfresco and love it! Use the smaller doors more than the big stacker if just going in and out of the house for things. But great for airflow into the house. When we were signing up they weren't doing the corner doors and at $10k it wasn't worth it anyway. I'll try and dig out what it costs us to upgrade them all Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: We are building VANCOUVER 33 with PORTER DAVIS 160Mar 01, 2017 10:23 am Hey Liz / Nikil - thanks we will check out ‘Superb Window Furnishings’ this weekend. Man now i’m confused on whether to keep the windows or upgrade to sliding doors lol. If we do decide to keep the windows then we might get the “Boutique Sliding door” as the standard looks way to thin for my liking. The ones in Highgrove looks pretty thick and looks like an upgrade sliding door. Yea, hopefully we can change to the F & P appliances without any additional charges, we love the f & p dishwasher. Thanks Wardorf_Grange_Build – we will also check out “Life Blinds”. Hi Shanis33 – Thanks for the pics, they look awesome. Yes please if you could tell me the correct name and pricing for boutique sliding doors from dining/rumpus to alfresco, that would be great! Did you also upgrade your sliding door from Family to Alfresco or is that the standard sliding door? Three options 1 Ask the liquidator 2 Find another PD customer and ask the source of their report 3 Pay for new report 3 13893 I do enjoy the drama:-D In his latest two videos he has started bringing security guards to site, I am waiting for the punch on to begin lol 6 46336 |
