Browse Forums Building A New House Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 261Mar 08, 2017 5:43 pm That's fantastic news, really pleased for you. Hope we bump into you, I always keep my eyes peeled for all of you guys Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 262Mar 09, 2017 7:06 am We'll be there this evening around 6 ish I think... give or take half an hour - we are flattened and sprinkled with water! My builders were soooo good. They rang me because they were concerned a little bit of dirt might fall onto the neighbour's concreting - I said that we were friendly with each other so just knock on her door and tell her you'll sweep it off, and we'll come round and clear/clean, if it's much. She was fine - but it's so good that F©rm@t cared, and my neighbour said they were really lovely to speak to. Builders that care - QUICK take a picture!!!! Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 263Mar 09, 2017 9:27 pm They've pegged out where the slab will go, and it looks like no dirt left on the neighbour's concrete. Yay!!! It's looking small again now, but when the slab goes down it will look big, and when the frame goes up it will look small, and when the gyprock goes in it will look big... and so on. At least, that's what happened with my parent's build. Hubby is all at sea with it still, but visualizing more easily now that some pegging out has been done. Looks like they've built us up in the front and we will slope down to the street in the front driveway and garden. Didn't really want that, but I'll make it work. Good drainage for my cacti. So wanting that cactus garden... can hardly wait! Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 264Mar 10, 2017 5:39 am Yay for you starting!!! Hopefully you fly along!! Yeah that's how ours felt too Building a Fairmont Custom in Seaford Meadows Our Build Thread Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 266Mar 10, 2017 11:18 am I've felt like ours looks small the whole way through haha, your place is pretty big Jayajaya, I really can't wait to see it all come together Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 267Mar 10, 2017 6:54 pm It's big by SA standards - where I come from it would be considered a medium size house. By hubby's UK standards, it's gigantic. The floorplan I started with was a five bedroom, and I extended a back wall out, and took out walls etc... If it was five bedrooms they would have been the size of postage stamps. You couldn't even put a chair in! The apartment we lived in when I was a girl was bigger than some of the houses, here. Even he was saying it looks small today, though. He said we should have bought the block next door! I said it's a lot bigger than the villa we are in, and then he was trying to compare... We were walking around waving our arms around, trying to indicate rooms to each other - hilarious. Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 268Mar 11, 2017 9:27 am Framing gives better perspective. Hope they move quickly for you. Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 269Mar 11, 2017 3:27 pm We drove past your block today, what a great spot you're in there. I can see what you mean now, it doesn't look as big as it actually is, it fills the block nicely though Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 270Mar 16, 2017 1:34 pm Just seen your trenches being dug Jayajaya Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 271Mar 17, 2017 4:35 pm Yeah, I now think it looks big again! The perspective is strange from the street - There is more back yord than it looks like... Hubby was doing gazelle leaps around the trenches, whilst I was envisioning his broken legs! I'll cet an update from him tonight! Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 272Mar 17, 2017 4:37 pm I'm writing in swingalese, now... 'yard', and 'get'. Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 273Mar 18, 2017 4:26 pm What is wrong with the homeone site? It won't give me the menu with the logout, anymore, with my touchscreen - and it won't let me upload photos anymore from the 'full editor' reply box! Ggggrrrrrr... glitchy again! oh well - consoling myself by reading Michael Caine's autobiography, and watching Korean dramas on netflix... Have decided to hand in my resignation on Monday - have been deeply unhappy there, for years. The company, collectively, would kill it's own grandmothers, let alone us employees, for another five cents. Had enough. Hubby said, 'Stuff 'em!'. I only had 12.5 hours per week there anyway, and they wanted me to work all the public holidays and some weekends, which is the only time Hubby has off. He'd like to see his wife on occasion. So now I can really concentrate on handling this build, which is so great! I feel like I was Atlas, and someone took the world off! Will have to concentrate on getting a few things done, and knocking out some paintings. Then I might look for casual work. Might go back to a cleaning job - I LOVED that when I did it. Used to clean a doctor's office, after hours. No being bullied, work at your own pace. I have to get back to trying to make some light fittings, too. All the DIY lights I see, or come up with seem to end up being dim mood lighting - I need to be able to see! I think I'll have to go papercraft. The papier maché was ok, but still didn't let enough light through the shade. Ok for lamps. I'm starting to think in terms of origami... hmmmm Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 274Mar 18, 2017 5:03 pm Ive been having problems adding photos too, I've found that if I do the text first, send it then edit and add pics, it will work. Not sure about your other issues. That's great that you can do that, it's a brilliant feeling resigning from a job you don't like and even better that it'll give you more time to be creative. I can't wait to set up a sewing station at our new place, I've got lots of projects I want to get started on Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 275Mar 18, 2017 5:36 pm We just went to spotlight and put 12m of curtain material on layby. Time to whip out the sewing machine. Hope to see you around your site someday too Jaya Building a Fairmont Custom in Seaford Meadows Our Build Thread Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 276Mar 18, 2017 8:12 pm congrats jaya it certainly takes up alot of time - now you can stalk the builders like i did Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 277Mar 19, 2017 9:30 am Yes! Buildingnanna - stalking builders! I'll be sitting on the road in a deck chair, sipping Mai tais, making them nervous - I wish! That's what I've been looking forward to, Marshall - the dedicated sewing space. I've had an interest in making bags, recently, as well as all the other stuff. I recently experimented with Julian Roberts' subtraction cutting technique, and ended up with a beautifull dress in one day. Looking forward to more play time with that. I've also toyed with the idea of making custom shirts and jackets for hubby. He has a dropped shoulder due to a broken collarbone years ago - it would be nice to make something tailored properly out of good materials. Hahaha MJT - I've been making curtains in every place all my life - I made some Roman blinds for Mum's place. NEVER again... I find curtains sooooo boring to do, it's almost a physical pain in my chest.... and yet I've done it over and over. Can't wait for these plantation shutters! I priced up the difference between those and having curtains made or bought - There wasn't a lot once you threw in the rods etc. Good luck with it! 12 Metres isn't all that bad to do - not with these days of easy eyelets and curtain tapes - I remember doing it without those, and that's probably where my dislike stems from. I used to think I'd like to start going in circles on those loooong straight seams and hems. I sure would hate to sew for a living - I don't think I could stand the repetition - even though I like repetitive jobs on the whole. Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 278Mar 19, 2017 9:32 am Thanks for the tip on the photos Marshall... I'll see if I can load the giant chocolate block, which is our trenches! Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 279Mar 19, 2017 9:51 am Nope, put it in irfanview and shrank it right down, pasted in beautifully, and then the forum leapt up and died like a shot antelope when I tried to submit it!
