We got word that the frame arrives on April fourth. And we just got the first bill - and our fence down the shared side is due to be done before the frame arrives. And our tenants need a new air conditioner. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Exciting times, our frames just started going up yesterday. We are building at Port Willunga and I just started a thread last night Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 286Apr 01, 2017 4:35 pm Hahaha... finally the builder got paid the first installment! The bank decided that we had to pay our variations up front... opposite to what they decided before, that we could pay them as they cropped up in each stage. Then they tried to tell us that the payment schedule the builder sent them didn't have the full, final, figure, and they hadn't seen that before. I had a copy of it, as I was cc'd on the email. It was right there. Not fibbing, the bank, but obviously not reading. So we paid the variations, and then the builder said they had to send an amended payment schedule, as the bank had changed what they had originally agreed to, yada, yada. So we didn't send them the amendment, as they were confused enough as it was. We'll send it to them now they've paid. *sigh* Bringing up baby. Macquarie - don't go with them - this is the first and last time we'll have dealings with them. As soon as it's built, we'll change. Our builder has been beautifully patient, and re-sent them all the documents about a billion times. Apparently they can't read up there at Macquarie. At all. And they are very skilled at losing what they haven't read - several times over. All this happened whilst I was deathly ill with the flu, mind you, so in a way it was lucky I was home from work, but also the last thing I needed. A bazillion emails back and forth to broker/builder/bank. So we paid all the variations, mucho $$$$$ plus $7500, for our tenants air con, plus several thou now, for the fence down one side. Expensive week! Hubby was looking green - he doesn't like the disturbance in the force (aka the trend lines in his spreadsheets!) Once I felt better, I started a painting - needed the stress relief. Still a bit sick, but only 2 more weeks to go in work, so I feel very composed in mind, and able to cope. How is everyone going? Ahhh - janbo - I know who you are! Everything going along ok? Your frames should be well up, yes? MJT, has your retaining gone in yet? I forgot to look as we went past today... ours should be in anytime before Tuesday - that's when the frames arrive. I still salivate over your exposed aggregate concrete every time we go past. Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 287Apr 01, 2017 4:53 pm Oooh, and on the plus side, I found a glazier who has the non-reflective glass splashback, and it came in exactly the amount we had budgeted - quick, take a picture! Miracle of miracles. It wasn't much more than regular glass. And luckily it's low iron - that green tinged stuff makes me feel ill. All those buildings in town with it en masse .... uuuurrrrgggghhhh. Thu usual thing - we asked around, and what's common in the eastern states, no-one's ever heard of here. So Adelaide Glass Painters get my vote, for being up on the latest materials! Yay! I was so happy - I really can't bear things reflecting heat and lighting in the kitchen... so hot. SS assures us he knows whats what Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 289Apr 01, 2017 6:49 pm I still love our aggregate Had a few dramas trying to get council to do our paved crossover though. Now they have done half and left a gap for us to do... Retaining is on hold while I wait for the neighbours to agree to their side, and then I'll be doing it all. Building a Fairmont Custom in Seaford Meadows Our Build Thread Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 292Apr 02, 2017 9:42 am OMG, council dramas! I might ask them if we can pay for our concrete to go right across to the invert - see what they say -I want the invert widened anyway, so we gotta pay for that. Building, huh? Neverending sto-ory! Ahahah- ahahah-ahahah! Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 293Apr 02, 2017 12:18 pm I spent 6 months fighting to get our invert widened, and they wont do it in Seaford Meadows. This was even after I had it confirmed to us that we could widen it before we purchased the block. The best I could get was allowing us to move ours over a bit, but even that was a struggle. And yes, all of this is despite others on the same street having wider driveways, and the display homes and stuff too. And I had all of this documented in a journal including emails. I would have had to take them to court or something if we wanted to go any further.... They apparently have a 'directive' and I was speaking to CEO level people and town planners and everything. They will blame the developer and the developer will blame council. And when it finally came down to it, they don't have a process to allow it, and they don't want to spoil their precious 'award winning development' Apparently something changed that people were being allowed to do it, and now they aren't. and sometime 'early this year' an inspector is going to come down all the streets and tell these people who have done it that they need to rip up their driveways and conform with the '4m maximum invert' despite being allowed to have up to 6 or 7 metres anywhere else in Onkaparinga council area. They wont let you concrete to the invert either. Are they gonna reimburse the $1000,s it costs to put the driveway there? Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 295Apr 02, 2017 3:19 pm But the paving the council does looks like $$@#% !!! And the tree roots distort it too easily. It's only more money for them to maintain it in the long run - forward planning is such an oxy-moron in this state. What award winning developement? Looks like the same old bog-standard developement that there is everywhere else! Idiotic... They want it to look like a classic Adelaide suburb according to their own literature, and then do everything to prevent it. Ends up being 'boxes on the hillside, and they're all made out of tick-tacky' (showing my age again!) And if they're going on about everyone being the same, why have different sections got different trees/streetlamps/footpaths etc? Bunch of bananas they are... Oh well, I'll ask the questions... sounds well retarded to me, but that seems to be the thing in SA councils. Be backward and stay backward at all costs! I think the encumbrances are null and void after a certain amount of years though, aren't they? We'll just rip up their garbage and do it all over again when the time comes, if they won't let us do it properly now.Now I gotta decide if I want to have a fight, or if it's just too infra dig. What I always say - there's no cure for stupid. Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 296Apr 02, 2017 5:11 pm Yeah it is all nonsense isn't it.... This wasn't an encumbrance thing though either, this was straight council problems Building a Fairmont Custom in Seaford Meadows Our Build Thread Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 297Apr 12, 2017 9:59 pm Your steel frame is looking very impressive, we detour past your place to see your progress Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 298Apr 14, 2017 10:20 pm I just wrote a long and detailed reply to everyone - homeone is glitchy again, and I lost it - sorry, I don't have the energy to re-post! I'm still sick, and had a CT scan on my chest yesterday... that was thrilling beyond belief! (Sarcasm detectors set to stun, please!) Frame is great, hate the window frame and gutter colour, Dune. Tell you all why when I have some energy! Hope everyone is going along ok! Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 299Apr 15, 2017 8:24 pm Hope you feel better soon. House is very impressive.
