Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our first build 962Aug 28, 2016 8:41 pm I love that the black window frames with the bricks is giving off the industrial vibe I was after. It's exactly what I wanted. As weird as it sounds I actually like the rough looking mortar lol there is something oddly beautiful to me about imperfection. I'm sure a psych would be able to explain my existential bent but I'm rolling with 'quirky' lol I really really wish I'd stuck to my guns with the reverse brick veneer. I'd love to have exposed brick to the interior even if it was just for a few walls in the main living area. Oh well.....Next build maybe if I survive this one! Re: Our first build 964Aug 28, 2016 10:20 pm Looking fabulous!!!! They've got a fair bit done so far in the last week(?) I have everything crossed for sun this week to at least get you to 'watertight' so it won't impact as badly. Question for you, see the 3rd pic down. Did they use 1/3 thickness brick? They look really skinny under that window but then don't on the other Windows. - otherwise known as Kym - Re: Our first build 965Aug 29, 2016 6:47 am Thanks Kym! Yeah they've sliced the bricks in thirds I guess to fit the vertical slant window ledges. Will be interesting to see how the turn out. My guess is we won't notice as the slant will cover it anyhow but soon find out! Re: Our first build 966Aug 29, 2016 7:47 am Yeh that's what I was thinking. It's all so neat!! - otherwise known as Kym - Re: Our first build 967Aug 29, 2016 9:34 am Looks amazing Dee... Just curious, why there is a gap (no mortar just a tiny hole) between few bricks? Re: Our first build 968Aug 29, 2016 9:45 am Becs - why wouldn't they do bricks above doors? Like Dee I have not seen a option of that - mine were done and it never occurred to me to ask would it. That is a bit sad if they are just trying to make extra money. I agree this is your chance to do something different like timber cladding. ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Our first build 969Aug 29, 2016 12:42 pm RegVic Looks amazing Dee... Just curious, why there is a gap (no mortar just a tiny hole) between few bricks? Thanks reg! I think that is where the tie downs go and they go around and fill them in with mortar along with the expansion joins after they nail them off on the inside. Re: Our first build 970Aug 29, 2016 1:23 pm They don't cover the expansion joints. So do check where they put them so they are not so 'out there' noticeable. ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Our first build 972Aug 29, 2016 3:47 pm You wouldn't want to cover then as they move and allow the bricks to expand and contract depending the temp - if you covered it in mortar then that mortar will crack and fall away over time as it moves. They shouldn't stick out of the line if bricks either through so shouldn't need triming - how far does it come out? ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Our first build 973Aug 29, 2016 3:49 pm Here are one of mine Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ They will try and put them in corners turning inwards or window edges so you don't notice it so much. ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Our first build 974Aug 29, 2016 4:26 pm yep what shell said - and the will run a bead of silicon down there to make sure its water tight. Maybe thats what he meant by filling it in?? - otherwise known as Kym - Re: Our first build 976Aug 29, 2016 5:31 pm shellby Becs - why wouldn't they do bricks above doors? I agree this is your chance to do something different like timber cladding. I really don't know and was completely thrown when he brought it up as our contract was drawn. I do not understand why it wouldn't be standard and even if not, we would have been prepared to pay the extra, back then, to upgrade anyway.
