Browse Forums Building A New House Re: JG King modified Heywood - toilet dilemma 461Mar 23, 2017 10:25 am Power must have gone in yesterday (yes I didn't visit for 1 day!) and plumbing is going in today. They seemed to be digging up the entire backyard looking for the sewer point, when I left there were 3 blokes staring down a hole like they were contemplating something . It's so good to see stuff happening! I think the slab will be delayed a bit but we should still be on track for next week sometime Re: JG King modified Heywood - toilet dilemma 462Mar 24, 2017 11:33 am No one on site today . Plumbers left the place a mess yesterday, fence open on three sides, dirt left on the neighbours lot, screw piles pushed over or bent (can't tell from outside the fence) so we were hoping they would be back today to straighten everything up and keep working towards the slab next week. I did meet our over the road neighbours today, they're a lovely retirement age couple, they invited me straight over to have look through their house! We were pretty excited when we saw that we had a custom skillion design going up out our future bedroom window and it sounds like it's going to get even more interesting! Re: JG King modified Heywood - toilet dilemma 463Mar 27, 2017 10:47 pm Lots of action today. Bedding layer (which was delivered sat) all spread and compacted, trenches dug and 3.2t of steel, pods, and other slab bits and pieces delivered. Maybe we will get a slab this week! It doesn't flush properly and our neighbours have one as well in a high house and theirs has exactly the same problem. We have contacted Reece Plumbing and the girl there is a joke. She assured me she would advise us how to fix the problem but eventually gave up, especially when I told her our neighbours were having the same problem. She assured me she would advise us how to fix the problem but eventually gave up, especially when I told her our neighbours were having the same problem. Thank you! We were about to send of an email saying that we would just take the cygnet, we'll hold off and have another think. The problem is that we have very few options. Do you have a hunch why it flushes poorly? Is it bowl shape? I did think it was bit flat. The UPGRADE prices came back as $1092 each for the Caroma (retail price $999), and $382 each for the AXA Uno (retail price $1073). I haven't asked them why the prices make no sense because I've heard it before when we upgraded something, they'll just say they get a better discount on the standard upgrade options. The guy we spoke to at Reece was gobsmacked at the $$$ they wanted to upgrade to the Caroma and when I told him the likely reason the skepticism on his face was glaringly obvious! He actually said they could ring us and negotiate. There are much better prices around for the same Caroma but even if we purchased them from Reece and owner supplied it would be almost $900 cheaper than paying to upgrade them through Kings. We doubt they would allow this option and we had decided not to bother asking and just move on. We tracked down the AXA in a different Reece store on the weekend and ruled it out due to it being a bit flatter in the bowl and less comfortable in the seat. The example there was also put together poorly (the guys excuse) so bits that should line up didn't which also put us off. Re: JG King modified Heywood - toilet dilemma 466Mar 28, 2017 5:21 pm I too would like to know more about the porcher toilet shortcomings. Re: JG King modified Heywood - toilet dilemma 468Mar 29, 2017 12:03 pm Congrats Bank! P.s. Are you changing the thread title? Re: JG King modified Heywood - toilet dilemma 470Mar 29, 2017 1:55 pm Slab pour is booked for tomorrow, not that we would know if we weren't chasing them to find out when our inspector can do his thing. So we're scrambling to get him there this arvo, supervisor isn't happy because he wants him there already, we're not happy because last we heard (yesterday) we were looking the pour at the end of the week possibly next week depending on how much rain we get tonight. argh! I guess I should be happy, slab tomorrow! Re: JG King modified Heywood - toilet dilemma 471Mar 29, 2017 2:37 pm Yay for slab tomorrow!! Who are you using for inspections? We found Darbecca were needing a good 1.5-2 weeks notice fir inspections so for future ones try and encourage sm to give you a good heads up! Re: JG King modified Heywood - toilet dilemma 472Mar 29, 2017 7:34 pm kylz4 Yay for slab tomorrow!! Who are you using for inspections? We found Darbecca were needing a good 1.5-2 weeks notice fir inspections so for future ones try and encourage sm to give you a good heads up! Plan was to use BE from here and he was available to come down this arvo but we needed confirmation that the setup was going to be complete or basically complete today because he is going away tomorrow (at this point we didn't know pour was tomorrow), by the time we did get hold of SS and found out that it was going to be ready because the trucks were booked for the morning, hubby unknown to me decided not to worry about it and that between me and his dad we would be right. When I found this out I hit the roof! I had surf coast trek training tonight until 7 so I've just come from checking the slab in the half dark. There are definitely issues (nothing that can't be rectified easily), so here's hoping the concreting dudes will listen to little me when I'm there at the crack of dawn tomorrow. SS said the building surveyor SHOULD be there today already, if he was he must have had his eyes closed or he's left them with a defect list to fix tomorrow. Re: JG King modified Heywood - toilet dilemma 475Mar 30, 2017 8:01 am We thought no slab today, we were the only ones there at 7, but we've just heard that we're second pour today, and SS will pass on our concerns about the issues we spotted. Hubby has just had some urgent stuff land in his lap at work so I'll be there on my own with one sick kid. Bad news is the frame isn't due to be delivered until the 12th . I thought for sure it would be up by Easter so I could show my parents.
Re: JG King modified Heywood - toilet dilemma 476Mar 30, 2017 8:04 am julia1301 Wow well arnt you glad you know what your looking at when it comes to slabs, I would have no idea. What are some of the faults you found? The stuff I picked up was the obvious stuff like no clearance between mesh and pipes (numerous spots), some sagging top mesh (they'll probably lift this up as they pour, but I'll be watching), no lagging on pipes (probably just not done yet, surely), few spots where the trench mesh clearance was a bit borderline, I didn't have time before dark to check every bit but noticed some while I was pulling out rubbish and stray scraps of waffle pods. Hubby checked that all the correct steel was where it should be while I was at training and checked most of the dimensions, no issues there. Of course all of this was done from outside the fence . Hubby's father who used to be a builder was there in the afternoon and spoke to the concretors, he didn't think there were any problems, but he seems to have confidence that all the trades will do the right thing , maybe that's how it was in his day Re: JG King modified Heywood - toilet dilemma 478Mar 30, 2017 9:22 am Looks like you have great weather for the pour I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending.
