They should be done by Friday, so about 2 weeks for bricks. _____________________________ Follow our build with Boutique Homes on Instagram - ourbarcelona_28 Re: JG King modified Heywood - Bricks started! 707Jun 19, 2017 11:53 pm kylz4 Awesome progress bank! How bizarre that council made the side of garage be like that!! Crazy It was an average height problem. It's so stupid, making it lower like this benefits no one (neighbours are to the south and it's up against their garage) and everyone has to look at this ugliness. Re: JG King modified Heywood - Bricks started! 708Jun 20, 2017 12:54 pm Ran into our SS at site today, he actually flagged me down this time . I think the purpose was to tell me that our second SS is "probably" taking over again, for territory reasons. He seemed nervous to tell me like I might be disappointed or something . Anyway fingers crossed this is a good thing, we had the last guy for such a short time we don't really know what he is like, but hubby spoke to him a couple of times on the phone and said that he was much easier to talk to. I asked where the electrician was at, he was about to follow them up because he thought (but not sure) that he booked them for this week because the plasterers are booked for next week. I mentioned that there is still no capping on the roof at the back of the garage and water gets in to the laundry there but I didn't really get any reaction. Completely forgot to remind him that we want a pre-plaster inspection so we'll have to chase him up later today or tomorrow once he's had a chance to follow up the electrician. I also asked about the bit of the concrete fixes that was missed, he says he's going to get the brickies to lay some bricks first then get the concreter back to fit the angle. Why?! Seriously just tell them they missed a bit and they need to get their butts back and fix it before the brickies get up to that bit . I wonder if he thought he might get away with ignoring it because it just a short bit? There's no way they'll get that by our inspector or us! So I'm expecting the rest of our glazing to turn up before next week, maybe? And insulation? Then we'll be properly locked out . Re: JG King modified Heywood - Bricks started! 713Jun 20, 2017 11:44 pm Yes most of the front will be a light coloured render, top of the porch is basalt render, the porch column will be the light bricks and the tall pier thingy is the dark brick. We copied a lot of the display except for front door, garage door and our dark brick is a bit darker. Fingers crossed it comes out ok Re: JG King modified Heywood - Bricks started! 714Jun 21, 2017 10:51 am Bricks are looking awesome Bank! Good luck with your SS changeover - hope it works in your favour! - B A vue of the pines on the Gold Coast forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=87210 Re: JG King modified Heywood - Bricks started! 715Jun 21, 2017 11:27 pm North side bricks were finished today. Alfresco columns look to be set up ready to go tomorrow, I'm excited to see them done to define the space! Electrical rough in was started, doesn't look like they put in a huge day. We didn't get the call we requested to clarify the vague bits of our plans . SS was on board and we reminded him several times but it didn't get through. The guy wouldn't even talk to us without approval from his office and our SS onsite . So we just called our SS explained what had happened, he seemed sympathetic, we got the impression he might have prior knowledge of this particular guys difficult nature, and asked him to pass on the few notes we had. Based on what we saw tonight it doesn't seem to have worked . I would love any thoughts or opinions We've narrowed it to 4, all have their compromises. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Cretement Ash white 450 - is the one we zeroed in on last year. Positives - it's the budget option only about $100 more than we have already spent, colour of this sample is good, we like the Matt finish. Negatives - some batches of this tile are browner and dirty looking. We've never seen it laid and worry that it might be too busy. Cretement Ash White 600 - About 2k extra which we feel is worth it for the bigger tile. Positives - Again colour/tone of this sample tile is good (probably our fav colour wise). Not rectified so can get a bigger tile for a reasonable price. We feel like the bigger tile might tone down the dark/light variations and repetitive patterning a bit. Negatives - It only comes in Wet look, we wanted Matt but this is only a subtle shine similar (but different) to lappato so we're considering it. Again colour varies wildly batch to batch. Portland Grigio 300x600 - This is the tile from the Finsbury display that we always loved and was our original inspiration. Positives - We've seen it laid and know that we would be happy with it. Matt finish. Negatives - Expensive about 4.5k extra. Only comes in this size if we're going to pay the large tile laying charges we would prefer it was a large square. The display has an old size 520x520 which is discontinued, if we could have got that last year we would have just done it and added it too the home loan. Axis White 600 - we've always liked this tile when we have seen it in displays. Positives - we know we love it laid. Have come to like the lappato finish. Negatives - Budget buster at about 5.5k extra. It is browner than the others and might require a paint colour change (works fine with kitchen). I think if it was up to my husband he would sign up for the Cretement 600 now, he is quite taken with it. I'm not as sure because I feel we have a 'good' sample tile and they vary. Also unsure about the finish but don't hate it. We are currently waiting on a couple of samples from the current biggest batch that is in the warehouse, in the hope that is where our tiles would come from. The only picture I have seen of it laid is from house rules, it looks nice but it could be completely different in the flesh. It looks very similar to the floor tile we've chosen New York Bronx 450x450.
I hope you come to a decision soon. On a better note - your bricks look great!!! Edit to add: I think the 450 in the matt look Re: JG King modified Heywood - Bricks started! 718Jun 22, 2017 12:08 pm I would choose the cretement ash white 450mm, 600mm is nice but not not in a wet look, will look much nicer Matt Lexia Slim Twist with Beechwood Homes http://houseoflexia.blogspot.com.au/ https://www.instagram.com/natlyn7/ Re: JG King modified Heywood - Bricks started! 720Jun 22, 2017 2:46 pm OMG hubby just had a 20 minute conversation with our new/old SS! That's got to be longer than we got to speak with the previous guy all up! He sounds like a absolute gun! This is the guy who booked everything to lock-up by the end of May and said it would happen rain hail or shine and it sounds like he meant it! He can't believe the other guy came along and cancelled everything and that at times we've had weeks where there has only been a couple of hours work done! He said he aims to have someone on site everyday! I look forward to that . He is still trying to get his head around where everything is at with our job, it sounds like he wasn't thrilled with the communication from the other guy either so he is going to visit our site tomorrow to have a look for himself. Then he'll meet us onsite Monday so that we can run through all the issues that we know about and make sure everyone is on the same page and the correct drawings are being used. He also wanted to know everything that was outstanding from our previous inspection. He was adamant that our shower drain position has to be fixed, yay! The other guy tried to say that maybe the plumbers said it had to be where it is and he'd get back to us which of course he never did. Our inspector had already told him that it's not in that position on the plans so if they want it moved it has to be moved but I think that went in one ear and out the other. Most interesting he wanted to know how we found the other guy and lets say I don't think he was impressed . I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending.
