Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 981Oct 07, 2016 9:19 pm I'll be staying around Dee, still have landscaping to do and all of you guys builds to watch. Settlement went well, quick 5 minutes and then on my way. Agent told me the new buyer was so excited and he ha to drag her out in the morning when she did the inspection. I'm also glad it went to a first home buyer. The survey isn't for the property or bank. I have a 3m easement at the back, my alfresco corner butts right to it. The council want to make sure builder stuck to measurement and wants to see the easement pegged out. I'm not worried as I measured all that before they even poured the slab. Co worker of hubbys gave us a grape vine homewarming present. Can't wait to sort out it's spot and start my garden. ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 983Oct 08, 2016 4:59 am shellby I now have tv and internet!! I needed a booster on my antenna which the guy came and did today and telstra came and found the electrician installed my sockets wrong. I have to email GJ tomorrow and tell them if Telstra bill me (which I know they will) I'm sending them the bill since it was their fault. However guess what, my rainwater tank pipe busted again today when I drove over it. I called and said he better install it 400mm like industry standard and not the 100mm he has done both times. I have forgotten to tell them about the laundry washing machine drain so will contact them tomorrow about it. My old house is now ready for settlement on Thursday. It was sad walking around it empty and knowing we have now left - its really the only home my older 2 boys have ever known. I'm going to go back tomorrow to take photos to have it to compare to the photos we took before moving in 9.5 years ago. The cats are still being annoying. The 2 girl cats are fine and I think I could even test them going outside. 1 male seems to have calmed down but the other one is worse than a newborn baby. He spends all night walking around crying every minute - yet spends the day happily sleeping on the beds - he is driving us nuts as the meow echos through the house. CB - I saw the door there on Friday however now we are in I'm thinking more practical then looks and I really enjoy the breeze we are getting being up on the hill. So I think I may do the crim safe type of front screen door instead so I can open it up during the day. Yep that was my eldest and his friend - already have had 2 sleepover nights - we are kinda the in town house for the out of town kids. Eldest goes to the beach this weekend to another mates house. My space is the family/dining and kitchen. I kinda enjoy it, boys hang out in their area, hubby is in his lounge and i just enjoy my area and the alfresco attached. I'm into cooking and sewing which I use the dining room table so makes sense this is more my area. Hopefully I will have a new TV for my section in the next couple of weeks. I picked up my weeping mulberries today - they are beautiful. I was shocked to see how grown they have become since July and they have fruit ready to ripen which I didn't expect. I'm hoping to give them a week or two before we plant them out to get over the shock of the trip to the house with the wind. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Omg yay! We still have to phone or internet because they keep stuffing up. It's been nearly a month of appointments and zero communication. Me spending time on the phone chasing them up.... Grrr anyway glad yours went more smoothly. Love your mulberries - Devine My male cat has been the same, sleeps all day then paces around at night meowing, which he's never done before. I've been locking them in one room again at night because he wakes up the dogs and my Bub. Sad to let the old house go, but sounds like you are quickly settling in to the new chapter. That's so nice and heart warming to know someone is going to love your house as much as you did!! Make sure you take photos when you plant that grape vine GJ Gardner Modified Coolum 277 viewtopic.php?t=83643 Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 985Oct 12, 2016 8:45 pm Hey Shelly, how is it now you've been in for a week or two? Happy with the quality? - otherwise known as Kym - Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 986Oct 12, 2016 9:55 pm Everything is still great. House is holding up fine. I did buy a dyson stick vacuum so I can easily keep the tiles clean looking. Seems the builder never got the engineers report for my retaining wall, so the SS had to come and measure it, take photos etc for the engineer to make an report for council. We brought a king size mattress today and will retro fit our base this week to take the mattress until we can make the base we want. Got nice linen as well. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Hoping to start prep work outside this weekend and start correct measurements so I can order what is needed, starting with retaining walls. Nothing much makes me think, I wish I did this or that with the house. I love it. I do wish my pantry was bigger - but I couldn't change that as I would have needed to extend the length which we couldn't do as it fits right from setback to easement. ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 987Oct 13, 2016 1:36 pm Ohh jelly of the stick vacuum!! Can't wait to upgrade to a king GJ Gardner Modified Coolum 277 viewtopic.php?t=83643 Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 988Oct 13, 2016 3:53 pm Oh I love bed bath and table! Their bed linen is so pretty! I've been thinking of the Dyson too but already have a Hoover stick vac. Good to hear all is settling in well at your new home Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 989Oct 18, 2016 12:12 pm Sooooo recommended the dyson dc44 animal stick- I can't believe how much I pick up each day - even after using my normal dyson on vacuum day. Dee, it was so nice and turned out where gj here gets their gift baskets from. I so have to control myself when I go in there. Well today spent $7000 ordering all the fencing, gates, 35 metal retaining wall posts, pallet of 2.4 treated pine and over a pallet of cement!! The fence was the cheap bit - $3800 its the retaining wall that is the killer. Hopefully all delivered by next Thursday as I hope to have an digger in to do all the holes then we start the hard work Friday. Hopefully be all done within the next 3 weeks ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 990Oct 18, 2016 12:26 pm Jesus Shell, isn't cheap is it?! Thank god all our neighbours fenced their yards which fenced our yard I am waiting to see if we need a retaining wall after the slab is put down, GJ reckon we don't but I'm not so sure Any trouble from the old bitty next door? GJ Gardner Modified Coolum 277 viewtopic.php?t=83643 Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 991Oct 18, 2016 12:29 pm We got lucky, she finally agreed to my colours. She has been fine - complaining about the build behind us now The fence was the cheap bit! That is only $2000 - it's the gates for the front $1000, gate for side $500, rest is retaining wall. ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 992Oct 18, 2016 12:38 pm Bahaha she's going to love her life for the next 6 months How did she ever agree to the units that were built in the first part of your thread? What colours have you picked? GJ Gardner Modified Coolum 277 viewtopic.php?t=83643 Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 993Oct 18, 2016 4:43 pm Gawd! $7k just like that! Gone! I'm dreading getting quotes back! I bought the bath caddy, toilet brush and soap dispenser in bed bath and table today $80! Kmart and target for this chick for a while! So many pretty things I had to restrain myself! You guys are lucky if that's where GJs get their gifts from! Lol @ the old biddy! Thank god she's distracted by those other pesky builds! Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 994Oct 18, 2016 6:32 pm It got approved CB because it's a 'studio' not a unit which happens to have 2 bedrooms and a kitchen. Sadly the builder just declared bankruptcy and now insurance has taken over the build and nothing happening. We are having basalt rails and posts with shale grey panels. Dee and that is me buying under trade with our abn - we will be building it all ourselves. ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 995Oct 18, 2016 8:27 pm Wowee!! Fixed my lounge lights with the dimmer. Wasn't happy when he turned up and said, no they are like that with led down lights. Ummm no, my alfresco works prefect and the way it cuts out when dimming makes me think it's the transformer. So he not happily climbed into the roof and replaced one of the transformers and what do you know - now it works correctly. Now to get them back to fix my lounge ceiling fan as it ticks, we tried the weight they they said and it still ticks - very annoying. Found a supplier for my steel sleeper posts - at tweed. Also $1000 cheaper than if bunnings could have done my whole order. Now to work out if our car and trailer can hold that weight and bring it down if delivery is to much. I also hired a guy to dig out post holes and dig for our retainer garden bed plus he organized a cement truck for setting these posts. So slowly coming together - in 2 weeks will be working on this new fence and retaining wall. Hope to have grass and basics all done by end of November. ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 997Oct 22, 2016 4:23 am Great progress Build thread http://tinyurl.com/llgc7yk Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 998Oct 22, 2016 5:24 am Loving the pendant lights shell!!
