Just before my bricking started, my SM rang to try and persuade me to change the finish of my brick from flush to rolled - main reason being chips being more visible with the flush finish. I was a step ahead- I had rang Selkirk and said I had heard it was common for my brick to have some chips. They said if that's the case, set aside and they will replace every chipped brick. I told my SM that & that I insisted on flush (after all, that is how they were promoting the brick on their website), he didn't really like it but it means he will keep the brickies honest & ensure they do a top job. I told him if there are chipped bricks, I would be insisting they be replaced so may as well take their time and do it right the first time. SO far, so good. All the best with the bricking! Hopefully they sort it out fast. I told my brickies the same but invariably some bricks will have small chip which is fine. It's the large chips which will have to be replaced regardless. @Orph Build thread: viewtopic.php?t=78328 Home Furniture: viewtopic.php?t=80551 Technology Hub: viewtopic.php?t=83663 Landscape Design: viewtopic.php?t=80645 Orpheus Building the Metricon Glendale 38|Sydney Re: Dream Metricon Glendale 38 (Sydney)! 2767Jul 26, 2016 5:57 pm Ok, most of the brick works is complete. The balcony pillar is higher and the corner window in the leisure room is installed correctly. Most of the chipped bricks (except 4 that I counted were not replaced ). Might have to let these slide and fix later. Does stairs in pic 1 look normal? Thanks. Tread spacing is unavoidable unfortunately. The installer would have cut out the last tread to fit it in the opening. There are basic rules to be followed regarding tread height and spacing. So it's a matter of how that spacing works out on-site. I would however, be concerned about the mdf used on the internal stringer. Why haven't they used a dressed timber there? The stringer for the last step is finishing off right to the floor but for pic 2, it follows the previous trend and finishes above the floor. Do you have a picture of the side view of your stairs that you're able to share? Thanks. Dream Metricon Glendale 38 (Sydney)! 2777Jul 29, 2016 4:34 pm KKPP Thanks, Steve. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ In your case the mdf stringer would probably need that extra support as the load needs to be perpendicular to the floor rather than a diagonal load if you follow my stair design. I'd still question the use of mdf if there is specific mention about the construction of your stairs i.e. Pine cut stringer, mdf treads and risers and winders, stainless balusters and pine handrail.
