Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Internal works... 201Sep 11, 2015 2:29 pm Went past this morning & got a few new pics! Guys have done the footings for the retaining walls out the back / pool walls, and generally cleaned up the back of the place. Pics! Pool - This will have a 1.8m wall on the top of it that effectively runs straight down into the pool. The backside of this is right on the boundary so it will form part of my next door neighbours fence. http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff371/travispegg/MA2/pool%20footings1_zpsgg2yaseb.jpg Side footings - this will have a bit of wall on it, and also be slabbed and tiled for the pool surround. http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff371/travispegg/MA2/pool%20footings2_zpsksoeyoec.jpg Stair cut outs - These are poured concrete stairs (tiled) from the main living area up to the backyard. I think there will be 5 or so steps here. http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff371/travispegg/MA2/pool%20footings3_zpsmzszxxuv.jpg Starting to see some decent progress Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Internal works... 203Sep 14, 2015 10:19 am Thanks Joh! I am still checking in on your blog all the time... bet you are looking forward to moving back over here (although - I find moving short distances a challenge so I know I would struggle with an international move!!). Couple of pics while I'm here. I went with an offset colour for all my internal doors. Challenge being when they are sprayed with a dark colour - they have a tendency to run, so we had to spray and bake with a diesel heater basically at the same time. Finish is flawless though - I couldn't be happier. http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff371/travispegg/MA2/internal%20doors1_zpsjveduc2j.jpg http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff371/travispegg/MA2/internal%20doors2_zpseeeshoqh.jpg This week the front balustrade also goes on - so it'll be good to see the elevations start to come together . Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Internal works... 204Sep 14, 2015 10:36 am Those doors make me swoon! For some reason that I can't imagine, if we were to paint our front door a dark colour it would void the warranty??? I'm going to have to get my black fix in our landscaping. I couldn't persuade my husband to go for some black trimmings in the interior. http://www.housebythewater.wordpress.com From blank block to new home in Mandurah, Western Australia. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65564 Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Internal works... 206Sep 14, 2015 12:15 pm Thanks guys! Not black (just dark in the room with all the windows taped up for painting) - but they are quite a dark grey. Joh - colour def wouldn't void a warranty . What black accents are you planning for your garden? Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Internal works... 207Sep 14, 2015 2:16 pm Wow, travis. Love the dark doors!! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=76666 our custom build on 25 acres Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Internal works... 208Sep 14, 2015 2:43 pm Absolutely gorgeous (expect no less ! Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Internal works... 209Sep 14, 2015 3:51 pm Depending on the product it can void warranty. Some external door manufactures do and our external cladding company (Dulux) certainly does. It all has to do with the LRV (light reflecting value) and how it is affected by the sun. My build thread: Custom build on 40 acres viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75656 Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Internal works... 211Sep 14, 2015 9:24 pm MnT, that makes sense. Travisaus, I plan to paint all the existing neighbour fences black. They are such a hotchpotch of materials and painting fences a dark colour hides a multitude of sins. Some new sections of fence will probably be black too. I think it makes an excellent backdrop for green. Also lovely in combo with timber as per your facade. (Though now I'm worried to say that - maybe your black is very dark grey! I'm not fussy. Love both.) http://www.housebythewater.wordpress.com From blank block to new home in Mandurah, Western Australia. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65564 Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Internal works... 212Sep 14, 2015 10:36 pm Good to see someone else doing dark internal doors Love my black ones! Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Internal works... 213Sep 21, 2015 11:35 am Black fencing will look great Joh - I think i am going to do the dark grey around on mine too. One side fence will be new - the other side is existing but I think I am going to re-skin my side so that it will all match. I took a few days off work last week to do a variety of house related things - got heaps done and got some pics! Starting at the front - the balustrade has gone on! Went with the glass, mini posts and a satin top cap. Going on: http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff371/travispegg/MA2/balustrade6_zpsv09mzalw.jpg Finished: http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff371/travispegg/MA2/balustrade5_zpsdubawnnu.jpg The internal doors have finished being painted. Here you can see the big single slider in the media (sidebar - you can justttt see the colour of the media on the left here... dark enough??). Also in this is the pantry door. http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff371/travispegg/MA2/dark%20doors1_zps5sglzpsn.jpg Now upstairs - the ensuite tapware has gone in: http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff371/travispegg/MA2/basin%20and%20tap1_zpsfdz5v3aw.jpg And WC's: http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff371/travispegg/MA2/ensuiteWC1_zpst70f7dx8.jpg This was a day off job - I was originally just going to fill my bath in the ensuite with a rain shower mounted flush with the ceiling. Pretty much everyone I told this too then told me I was crazy - being that it'd take sooo long to fill, cause of the droplet size would likely be cold by the time it was done, and cause it wasn't a proper bath filler would splash a bit. I ignored all this for as long as I could until I bit the bullet and started looking for an alternative. Problem being - the plumbing is in the roof and everything is tiled! Looking around there were some nice roof fillers from Gessi: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I thought these would look a bit funny though hanging down in the middle to the ensuite. I then came across a Kohler one... a call to Kohler head office in NZ let me know that they were discontinued 6 months ago (shock - no one wants to pay $1200 for a bath filler!!!!) however tradelink the aus distributor ended up having 2 in their warehouse. This thing is pretty cool - flows up to 55 liters / minute (!!) and has a design so that it doesn't splash. Big chunk of brass too! http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff371/travispegg/MA2/bath%20filler1_zpslogbd5hg.jpg https://youtu.be/RtHEBPiDcrQ https://youtu.be/k3NqDqzJJSk Back downstairs - the stairs / cellar have been painted and unmasked ready for the glass window to go in. http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff371/travispegg/MA2/cellar1_zpse1kygjfx.jpg And my other pick up on Friday. My front door is 2750 high and I couldn't find a handle longer than 1200 in an offset design (so that it could be mounted on the frame side of the glass - but wouldn't cover up the lock). I also wanted to get something matt black so that narrowed my options down even more. I ended up finding a place up here who would custom make me a handle, then get it powdercoated to suit. Offset design would have added more expense - so decided to just get it made the full height of the door . http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff371/travispegg/MA2/door%20handle1_zps2gwbli4x.jpg This week the guys are installing all the showers / baths / taps / door handles etc - so hopefully a few more pics when my kitchen taps are installed! Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Internal works... 214Sep 21, 2015 12:15 pm Sounds like a very productive week. Front facade and doors looks excellent. That cellar is going to be a stunner. Your bath filling from ceiling does make me nervous. I fill our bath using buckets of water collected from the shower head regularly since we don't have plumbed hot water here in Brazil, but our shower heads have a heating mechanism in them. It's a poor attempt at getting a luke warm bath for my young son. It's barely warmer than the cold tap water (which is not exactly cold here, 2 degrees from the equator) once it hits the bucket on the floor. I certainly would not bath in it as an activity of relaxation. Does Australia regulate max. tap water temperature? Maybe it's only a recommendation. Sorry I don't have a good alternative to suggest. http://www.housebythewater.wordpress.com From blank block to new home in Mandurah, Western Australia. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65564 Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Internal works... 215Sep 21, 2015 12:20 pm Yep - hot water in QLD is restricted to a max of 50 degrees. With this filler in place - I should be able to fill the bath in 3-4 mins (rather than out of a normal head at 9l/min) - temperature with this will be fine . This will in effect make it much easier to live with than a normal bath filler. Countdown must be on Joh till you move back here!?!? Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Internal works... 216Sep 21, 2015 12:24 pm Ah, I didn't pick that up (despite looking at your video links- duh!). Sounds like a plan.
