Haha! I know, I wanted to ask if I could have a look through it, but they were so serious I couldn't dare ask.

Things ate happening Re: Custom home design Sydney - narrow block - DA Approved!! 144Sep 10, 2015 10:32 pm I remember seeing surveyors looking through them when I was a kid thinking "why do they need to look through that, the house is only just there, right in front of them. Maybe they have bad eyesight". Ah the innocence of youth! Re: Custom home design Sydney - narrow block - DA Approved!! 145Sep 15, 2015 1:14 pm Waiting for news and/or photos of excavations today. Glorious, but windy, day for it Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=38&t=75302 Re: Custom home design Sydney - narrow block - DA Approved!! 146Sep 15, 2015 1:31 pm Delayed till tomorrow, cos some other house who is being excavated for fitting out a pool hit rock, so delaying us. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75739&p=1299716#p1299716 Re: Custom home design Sydney - narrow block - DA Approved!! 147Sep 15, 2015 1:36 pm Oh p@@! Not far away though! Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=38&t=75302 Custom home design Sydney - narrow block - DA Approved!!! 148Sep 16, 2015 12:19 am If it's any consolation I'd say the owner of that other house is likely to be in much more of a predicament over the rock issue than you are! As one of my mates once said on a bucks trip: "there's always one...(worse off than you are)" - in relation to my hangover haha. Yes today was super windy. I saw a builder on his own trying to lay some huge (5m+) pieces of plastic sheeting for a basement garage excavation - poor bloke! Re: Custom home design Sydney - narrow block - DA Approved!! 149Sep 16, 2015 3:56 pm We have excavation action today! Question to all who have started or built already... How deep did your piers go down to? My builder said he hit shale at 1.8m deep, I though that's not very deep at all. Anyone who can shed some re-assurance about this would be great! Finally breaking ground! Sounds about right. I actually don't know how deep ours were as we never measured them as we took the whole footing down to the shale, not just the piers. Most were at the same level but there were a few deeper ones. From looks i'd say most were at about 1.5m but a couple were about 2m. When are they planning on pouring the concrete for the piers? I do hope it doesn't rain tonight for you! I know what that's like! Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=38&t=75302 Custom home design Sydney - narrow block - DA Approved!!! 152Sep 17, 2015 5:02 pm I think they pore the piers on the go, so if it rains it's not fillled up with water. I couldn't got to site today, was worried they didn't show up due to weird weather. But they did work on the block today. So far no rain in Sydney compared to the hail in the central coast. This weather watching is making me edgy! Lol. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75739&p=1299716#p1299716 Re: Custom home design Sydney - narrow block - DA Approved!! 153Sep 17, 2015 8:35 pm 1.8 is pretty deep IMHO and this is really pretty good. Some countries and locations here build with no piers at all so I think 1.8 is great:) Sent from an elegant mobile device using Tapatalk. The weather has been a bit weird today. Hopefully the sun keeps shining till you get your slab in viewtopic.php?t=78985 Yes I'm hoping it's all sunny again in the morning, and the rain is only a sprinkle! I'm now worried maybe we can't get roof on and all bricks done before Christmas break. Fingers crossed our brickies are way faster then gandn's! I still haven't got the window quote sorted! GJames is so Slow, and they have 100001 excuses all the time, the builder says that's the sales people's culture these days. We still have a 1-2 weeks to waste still then he can get angry at them! Overall I think my builder is too laid back. Better put the pressure on him again for frame roof and bricks before he can go on holiday! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75739&p=1299716#p1299716 Re: Custom home design Sydney - narrow block - DA Approved!! 157Sep 17, 2015 11:42 pm Yay!! 1.8 is good. Re: Custom home design Sydney - narrow block - DA Approved!! 159Sep 18, 2015 8:02 am I'm sure your brickies will be faster than mine. In the end though I'm glad they took as long as they did though because their workmanship can not be faulted. We had 1 of my 2 lovely bricklayers leave on Monday so I had to get replacements in. The 2 replacements working with my 1 remaining bricklayer were super fast getting it finished but their workmanship is just not the same. Its still great don't get me wrong, it's just not the same. Your biggest factor on getting things done before Christmas will be the weather. I would be so much further ahead if it wasn't for all this rain! The other thing why my bricking took longer is my poor quality bricks (had to be sorted before laid plus made hard to lay them as they were different sizes) and all the cuts I had. There was a lot a windows with cuts needed in between (poor planning on our behalf) plus all the soldier bricks above every window and door. Plus our brick had to be cut with the saw not just hit like normal. It has literally taken him days of cutting and he hasn't even charged me for it! So if you don't have lots of cuts I'm sure it will be much quicker. Hoping this rain stays coastal or goes away! Weather forecast not looking the best for next week. Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=38&t=75302 Custom home design Sydney - narrow block - DA Approved!!! 160Sep 18, 2015 11:02 pm Yes, the reason why we're going backward and forwards with the window people still is because we hand to re-correct the window size to match up with brick work. from my inexperience as well, I tell them I want window size - 1200hx900w, the builder changed it to 1225hx850w, he said really the house designers needed to do that not him, and also I'm not building a rendered house so the brickwork lining up is very important. Always a learning curve. This also need to be reflected internally as well especially because we are having the wider architraves. No action on the block today!!! Even though there is no rain! I did allowed myself have a walk through on the block, my shoes were covered in mud, so next time I'll bring my gumboots.
