Browse Forums Building A New House Re: South Australia builds 361Oct 17, 2016 7:46 pm I must say I am so relived!! Saves us having to pay legal fees to get out of our contract! We have two options go through the qbcc and they send all our plans, colour picks we have done everything.. To 3 different builders to get quotes and who we choose builds our house for us or we choose to walk away and start again with another builder and get all of our money back. Thinking we will just start again as we have all our plans ect anyway and were told the first process can take a while. Re: South Australia builds 362Oct 17, 2016 7:48 pm It's a pretty sad situation, I hope there aren't too many people who have been stung by this, it kinda puts my post-build woes into perspective Re: South Australia builds 363Oct 17, 2016 8:40 pm meshelf Just read on Twitter that Homestead Homes at Blackwood Park have been padlocked up! https://mobile.twitter.com/clairehcampb ... 2127534082 Their display homes at Gawler and Blakes Crossing have been closed the last two weeks, that's what triggered my alarm bells Re: South Australia builds 364Oct 17, 2016 8:42 pm Ladybugs2 I must say I am so relived!! We're the same as you Ladybugs - I think just starting again will be a quicker process too rather than going through government departments! Re: South Australia builds 365Oct 17, 2016 8:49 pm Marshall5858 It's a pretty sad situation, I hope there aren't too many people who have been stung by this, it kinda puts my post-build woes into perspective It's a really crazy situation, I read somewhere that there's over 60 homes partially completed, I'm not sure if that's just here or nationally. But those poor people now have the hassle of insurance claims and finding builders to finish their homes I'm so glad we didn't get to site, we're one of the lucky ones. Re: South Australia builds 366Oct 17, 2016 9:06 pm There is actually 207 australia wide it's so sad ? I was talking to one of the workers today and he said they all got called to a meeting, liquidation came in locked the doors and they all couldn't leave until they were stripped of everything to do with the company. Poor guys are owed a ton of money and now have no jobs due to some crappy management makes me mad for everyone involved. Re: South Australia builds 367Oct 17, 2016 9:21 pm Pretty sad situation for everyone involved. Hopefully some of the other companies can take on a few of the jobs and get these people's houses built and the tradies back in jobs Building a Fairmont Custom in Seaford Meadows Our Build Thread Re: South Australia builds 368Oct 20, 2016 9:44 am How is everyone going with the Homestead fallout? A house on my street being built by them is half bricked I think, not a good stage for it be at a stand still. No news from me, just waiting on valuation. Hopefully have an update today. I really feel for those whose homes are partly done we were soooo lucky we didn't get to site in the end!! We've now got meetings with Dechellis and Burbank this weekend to go over plans and costings - also getting a quote from Metricon but they're really pushing a different floor plan which isn't what we want Good luck for valuations Marshall and meshelf - fingers crossed that they come back perfect! Re: South Australia builds 372Oct 20, 2016 12:23 pm wdid_SA Week 7 since it was handed to construction and still no movement on site. Over 3 months since the final builders interview. No communication from the builder. That's terrible wdid - who are you building with again? And have you received your insurance certificate yet? I know that's what we were waiting on until Homestead went belly up Re: South Australia builds 373Oct 20, 2016 12:24 pm Thank you TheGirlie. You are right it could be much worse! I very much doubt Metricon will do custom plans, they work off what they have and may customise a little. I think it's part of their business model to keep construction costs down. Just what I've heard! Re: South Australia builds 374Oct 20, 2016 12:25 pm meshelf Thank you TheGirlie. You are right it could be much worse! I know they do custom builds and are good quality, it's who we were going to build with until we fell in love with the Palisade @ Simonds Re: South Australia builds 377Oct 20, 2016 1:36 pm I'm building with F0rm@t homes. Well...trying to... ha! I have my insurance certificate, finance, council approval etc etc. Everything is ready to go but apparently the weather has set them back. Seems like a long setback to me. I'm building custom too and I looked at Rossdale, F0rm@t and Fairmont and the quotes all came in pretty close (+/-$3k). Metricon told me they wouldn't do custom. Good luck TheGirlie with finding a good builder and fingers crossed for meshelf and Marshall5858 for good news today! That does seem like a very long wait perhaps the weather has caused a backlog of jobs? They still should have the courtesy to call you though! I quite liked them though so I think we'll keep them on the back burner does anyone know if Simonds do custom builds on difficult blocks?
