Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 23, 2014 5:01 pm Very excited to say we have sold our home and have just purchased an acre of land to build another home. We have two weeks left in our home, it was a short settlement period and then we will be renting whilst building. I despise renting but we really just don't have a choice. We are about to lock in Clarendon Homes and build the Maitland 40. Here is our parcel of land.... with our lovely bush outlook Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Exciting days ahead, once of course we pack up our home and move to our rental. Re: Our New Home Build on an Acre 2Apr 23, 2014 8:19 pm Congratulations, we are waiting to settle on almost an acre in FNQ on the tablelands, never built before and waiting for our finance to come through but fingers crossed all goes well......good luck with your build Re: Our New Home Build on an Acre 3Apr 23, 2014 9:15 pm Congratulations looking forward to following your build. Land looks great, would love to see your plans. We are about to build on 5 acres. It just adds that slight bit of complexity (and expense!) to everything. What sort of time frame are you looking at? Re: Our New Home Build on an Acre 4Apr 23, 2014 11:10 pm M-Sass Still no plans as yet, just engaged the builder for soil and contours etc. We have additional costs just due to an acre I can only imagine what its like with 5, but 5 sounds brilliant. Have you looked at a builder as yet? Rob70au - have you looked at a builder yet? Re: Our New Home Build on an Acre 5Apr 24, 2014 5:27 am We are building with Austart Homes and have picked the Regent 255 with changes to the alfresco area, we are doing the patio the full length to enable us to have an outdoor kitchen, a sitting area and room for an outdoor spa, all will be under roof but will be perfect for the great views and amazing sunsets we have up there. like you we have sold our house, it settles in 4 weeks and we are bunking in with friends for the build. We have done our soil test, paid our deposit on the land and just waiting for finance on land to be approved. Land is currently being titled for us and according to our builder only takes a few weeks in our area. Builder hasn't asked for a deposit but we had to sign a form to say if things fall through we are liable for anything he has done for us to get project ready for finance stage which is about $2000. We do have town water and power but need a septic tank which is looking at costing approx $14,000. Stress already setting in and we are only at week 3 and nothing even happening yet, hence replying to this post at 4am Re: Our New Home Build on an Acre 6Apr 24, 2014 2:44 pm Lot 927, we are just finalising finance, and hopefully should get final contracts this afternoon. Everything is ready to go into council, once we sign the contract. I'll update my thread shortly, not that there is much to add at this stage. What are your plans with the acre? Just garden? Pool? Where abouts (roughly) are you located? Chooks? Re: Our New Home Build on an Acre 7Apr 24, 2014 2:55 pm We are (hoping) to build our next home on just under an acre - 4000sqm to be exact we are currently on 800sqm, so can't wait for a bit more space! Just need this house to sell first! We are lucky enough to be able to live in my parents' house while we build (we did this with our last build too), as they have moved to Alice Springs and my sister only stays there one night a week when she's not at uni. Will be a good chance for us to save some $$$ for everything we want to upgrade! Love your bush outlook. Is it a corner block? 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Our New Home Build on an Acre 8May 01, 2014 12:04 am Change of builder... so glad did not get further in with Clare33don. We signed with McDonald Jones today and will be building the Bronte Executive. Re: Our New Home Build on an Acre 9May 03, 2014 5:02 pm Congratulations it looks like a beautiful block look forward to seeing your house take shape. We have just settled on 5 acres, haven't finalised the house though, hoping to get a move on with that so we can get building. Apparently it can take a reasonable amount of time to get through council. Build thread http://tinyurl.com/llgc7yk Re: Our New Home Build on an Acre 10May 14, 2014 9:35 pm Soil and contours complete. Per colour selection done. Now waiting for the tender. Re: Our New Home Build on an Acre 11May 14, 2014 9:51 pm Looks like a beautiful block! And I love your plan, it looks quite similar to ours in some regards. Can't wait to follow your build Our build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=69984 If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain. Re: Our New Home Build on an Acre 12May 16, 2014 12:06 am Good news, our land settled this we and is officially ours!!!! Next bit of good news is that the soil classification came back M class instead of H so thats $5K we don't have to spend.... Should have our tender next week. Re: Our New Home Build on an Acre 13May 16, 2014 8:15 am Super it's all coming along quickly! Build thread http://tinyurl.com/llgc7yk Re: Our New Home Build on an Acre 14May 16, 2014 9:46 pm Tender Came in today but the house was not sited correctly, they are going to fix it up. For some reason they squared off the home which gave on one side a 45m front setback... hmmmmm we have an odd shaped block but I would have thought they would have realised that.. anyway they said they should have it fixed up early next week. Is this a deliberate privacy setting? Yep, I dare say that's what it is. You need to be invited to get access to it. If they are concerned about privacy issues, then don't post stuff you don't want the public to read, and then it could made as a public blog like mine is. As I'm building on one acre too, I would have liked to check it out. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Re: Our New Home Build on an Acre 17May 20, 2014 6:54 pm Hi... sorry peoples... was playing around with settings and seemed to have totally blocked it from the web... hang tight will sort it out. Re: Our New Home Build on an Acre 18May 20, 2014 7:31 pm If you don't have neighbours on each side yet, keep a patch of lawn on their side of the fence, around 2 or 3 metres wide all the way around nicely mowed. It not only keeps in good with them, but it will make your block look so much better. Even if you have a fence up, at least a metre wide strip constantly mowed on the other side will make your place look better. Considering that if you have a 1 acre block, you're very likely to have a large ride on, it takes next to no time to do that little bit extra when doing that. Re: Our New Home Build on an Acre 19Jun 14, 2014 10:45 am We now have our prelim plans... impressed by the amount of detail in the plans. The plan is to demolisgh the home, earthworks to prepare for slab, and then removal of existing wall for a new one. Requires a DA unfortunatley as the new wall will be… 6 21676 If you are in Victoria you have a statutory right to your own building inspector regardless of builder's consent.
