Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 31, 2014 9:16 am We finished building our house in December 2012, and moved in after recieiving our Interim Occupancy Certificate. Due to being busy with 2 newborns etc... we havn't gotten around to doing a driveway yet, or any landscaping. So far, we have not applied to get our Final Occupancy Certificate. What I want to know is - what is the FINAL occupany certificate for? Do we REALLY need one? Can not bother with it? I heard from somebody that if I dont sell the house within 7 years or so, whether or not you have a Final Occupancy Certificate does not matter - is this true? Thanks. Re: Final Occupancy Certificate - worth the bother? 2Jan 31, 2014 10:06 am Occupancy certificate is to ensure safety, health and amenity of the dwelling, do you want to risk it? You never know when you will sell, it may happen sooner than you think and then pre purchase inspector for the purchaser will be asking questions you will have no answer for. If the purchaser feels uncomfortable (remember buying is stressful) what will that do to your chances? Be bothered, do it!
