Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Duke's Double - Polished concrete 321Mar 11, 2015 11:14 pm Hi, I noted your painting yesterday whilst walking DD from tennis. If it helps we got our building licence Feb last year, and we are a good couple of weeks from lock up. First 10 weeks nothing happened as the file was "lost in scheduling". Also the guy who sold us our block is a builder & is building on the other block (after demo of original) his slab went down a week before us & has only just received timber for lower floor. His plan has changed from Christmas finish, to Easter to....... Fingers crossed! Re: Duke's Double - Polished concrete 323Mar 12, 2015 12:18 am Thanks Denten and Presidente didn't get to drive past tonight as had to work late. Will see tomorrow what progress there has been, if any, as it's my turn to do the school run. Re: Duke's Double - Cabinets & Tiling 336Apr 01, 2015 11:55 am Looks great. Love the polished concrete! Did you have any cracking in your slab? If so, how did that come up? We are also having polished concrete however we have some cracks that I'm a bit worried about. I'm hoping they won't be very visible once it has been completed. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=76666 our custom build on 25 acres Re: Duke's Double - Cabinets & Tiling 337Apr 01, 2015 1:02 pm Hi admodra, yes we have a few surface cracks and they are visible, but we actually like the effect. We didn't want a uniform floor, we wanted variation/character. Unfortunately the builder locked up the house just prior to polishing and then has covered the floor to protect it, so we haven't actually been able to see it up close in detail, only a few peeks through the window after it was done. For your info we upgraded the strength of the concrete to 32MPa however did not upgrade the mesh thickness. If you did this you may limit the cracking as far a practical, but there is always a risk. Re: Duke's Double - Cabinets & Tiling 338Apr 01, 2015 1:26 pm Thanks Dukecaddy. We also upgraded to 32MPa concrete, I'm not sure about the mesh. I'm trying to embrace the cracks . I'm looking forward to following the rest of your build. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=76666 our custom build on 25 acres Re: Duke's Double - Cabinets & Tiling 339Apr 07, 2015 2:27 pm Re: Duke's Double - Cabinets & Tiling 340Apr 14, 2015 7:40 pm Tiling will supposedly be finished today.
