Re: Who is building with Allworth Homes 1127Mar 13, 2015 8:22 pm For those who have already had tiling done, did they install the vanities in your bathroom before or after they tiled? Our vanities have been put in but no tiling done yet. We have had a few comments on facebook by experienced renovator friends and family that tiling should have been done first because 'Water gets in to the mortar of the tiles and then is sucked up in to the vanity. If the tiles are underneath the vanity any water that gets in there is able to escape to the waste pipe. If tiled up to the vanity moisture can get to the vanity and pool around the end grain of the cupboard'. Thanks for sharing Re: Who is building with Allworth Homes 1137Mar 19, 2015 5:16 pm Retaining walls... what a nightmare! We are currently sorting out retaining between 3 neighbours. On our 'high side', we have sorted things out and things are going smoothly (yay!). On our 'low side' however there seems to be a difference of opinions. We started our site works well before they have. When they have started, their builder has leveled their block right to their back boundary. In the meanwhile, excavated past the boundary and into our land. As the excavation is well over 900mm we need to have it engineered and approved for retaining. The engineers report has stated we can't have a retaining on the boundary because of the easement. It actually needs to be approx 1m or more into their property as there is also a sewage line which they can't build on top of. In our opinion, this becomes part of their landscaping as it's so far into their property. I don't think we then need to contribute to their landscaping costs. Am I right??? I really have no idea. They excavated below the footing of our house. In my SS opinion (not that in this case it means anything) even if we must pay anything, it would be a 70/30 or even 80/20 split. On our high side, we are leveling our block causing a bigger need for retaining but we are offering to pay more than our neighbours as we have caused the need for it. We really don't want to get offside with any of our neighbours but we also can't afford to pay for any unnecessary costs. Can anyone recommend what I should do or where I can find out more info? Council website haven't been very helpful. If they have cut the land & you haven't cut or filled near the boundary then you are not liable to pay for the retaining wall. If you both alter the land then your both liable to pay.
