I know many people here aren't fans however we've never had problems. Cool as a cucumber on hot days. They're doing the heating however we've not spoken about that. Are we supposed to? Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 2062Jan 21, 2015 11:55 am I'm not completely confident on this subject, but I think if you want to expand your heating system to add on cooling you need to make sure the system you have is compatible and will keep up. I could be completely wrong though, but I've read on this forum that people have upgraded their heaters because they intend on getting air con added to it later. I'm not sure if that's the same with evap cooling though. Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 2063Jan 21, 2015 12:02 pm puglover- i too have a human hot water bottle, my 'furnace', bless him. Ive been looking at brivis and doing on a 0% interest dealeo. No installer will do all vents etc then we can choose where we want there. Andy gave us the model number when i asked around, it was the 'rolls royce' of the smallest possible unit that could be bought- its made for 2/3 bedroom units not houses. Apparently its equivalent to a large split system and will 'ring its head off'. To me this seems like it'll cost more than upgrading the unit ourselves in repairs when it dies from overuse and elect/gas bills from running constantly. I explained to brivis that i want to wear snow gear in summer and singlets/shorts in winter. i want icicles hanginf from the ceiling in summer. i just hate summer lol Where are you building puglover?? Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 2064Jan 21, 2015 12:06 pm Okay well I think you've helped me make my decision, if I tell them at Pre Start I want it removed, does that mean the cost of the heating system becomes a credit I can use for other things? We are building at Mayfair in Cranbourne East, Kaitlyn, pending finance approval of course. We have a 5% deposit ready to go AFTER paying the $3k deposit on builder and land, so hoping we won't have any issues. Will be nervous though until we sign the paperwork! Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 2065Jan 21, 2015 12:10 pm How exciting. I'm sure everything will be fine! That's why i didn't like doing the colour appointment before final approval- it just gets your hopes up! Luckily we were all good, you will be too i'm sure! Yes it got creditted to us- about $2,000- we upgraded our floors with it lol. Are you doing the low-deposit or no-deposit option? Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 2066Jan 21, 2015 12:10 pm They installed a brivis wombat 20 for standard heating for ours, it has the option to add on cooling to it after using the same ducts. But you are looking at between $9-11k. So not cheap! We don't need every room cooled as we will only spend most of the time is the theater, and lounge room, so we are opting for split systems. One 7.1kw in the lounge and smaller ones in the master bed and theater. We got the 7.1kw for $1650 with $250 cash back so $1400. And $500 for the other rooms. I have a couple of sparky mates and plumbers who can do mates rates to do it all for $700 for all three. So $3,100 is a lot cheaper. And if we need to we might put one in the other bedroom but block out blinds and a few open doors through the house will cool the other rooms. Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 2067Jan 21, 2015 12:10 pm My husband just told me we have vents for heating. Evaporative cooling ones will use a different one. We are looking at breezeair Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 2068Jan 21, 2015 12:14 pm We thought we were going to do Low Deposit ($3k), but we don't have a guarantor or anything, so when we met with Resolve they said they want to use our savings as the deposit, which means we will have a 5% deposit. I think that actually expands our options, but I really wanted to use that money for pre-start so I could go nuts... hmmm maybe it's a blessing in disguise! Regarding air con I think my husband is keen to do split systems, but given I'd want one in every room it might be cheaper to go the whole hog. Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 2071Jan 21, 2015 12:21 pm Brivis quoted 11,000-15,000 for heating & cooling. HBC were quoting $10k for just aircon. Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 2072Jan 21, 2015 12:25 pm Yeah, we were actually going to upgrade the whole hog, but when we moved in, and during the few days we had over 30 yes the house was hot, but our front room was cooler than the rest of the house. The lounge room sucked and the master bedroom also, so depending on your house it might pay to wait, as you might only need 1-2 rooms done. We are doing the front room with a 3kw unit just because we got such a good deal when we brought the units... Silly I know but hey they are installing 2 why not get a third done for an extra $500. Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 2075Jan 21, 2015 1:06 pm We applied last week of Nov, conditional approval was before Christmas, final approval last Friday. However, keep in mind we had a land evaluation bump and this all happened over Christmas. Also the lady handling our application at Commonwealth Bank worked part-time (Monday, Wednesday Friday i think?) so that help things up. Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 2077Jan 21, 2015 1:10 pm And my parents are unbelievably outspoken and judgemental about buying houses- trust me, worst time imaginable to apply for a house loan and not say anything until it was finalised. Now to meet some of our neighbours! Surely there's someone on here whose also building at The Woods in Mickleham? Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 2079Jan 23, 2015 5:15 pm Hi Kaitlyn, I am building in Aspect Estate Greenvale on Mickleham Road and actually looked at buying in The Woods. It looked like a really nice estate. We have just started the build process with our roof tiles going up yesterday. It is a very exciting and somewhat stressful process ahead, if I can give any advice it would be to get everything, and I mean everything in writing. Unfortunately many things HBC and Resolve had said in person or on the phone had turned out to be very different when it comes to build. Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 2080Jan 25, 2015 9:52 pm Hey Guys, just wondering How much you actually need for a deposit with Homebuyers centre, Is it really just $3000 at the start and then you pay a little bit more at the end? I'm not a first homebuyer so I can't get the grant but I only have a small deposit. I havent, and i havent looked to much into it, but on face value its not the saviour its trying to make out to be.
