If its not a house and land package then they will charge you for survey pegs.. $750 sounds about right. I think the normal rate is around $220 per peg (plus builders markup).
Did the block already have survey pegs? if so there would have been no need for it to be re-surveyed.

Normally the initial survey is included but if the pegs are lost you will be charged for a re-survey and re-peg.

If this is your case it can be worth spending some time looking for the pegs. See http://www.anewhouse.com.au/?p=386

A site survey would only have to be done if they can't locate the boundary markers. We were told our pegging guy couldn't find the boundary markers so they wanted to charge us $1000 - $1200 extra to do another site survey. We didn't end up paying that as the markers WERE there as we found them ourselves so that saved us the money.

If you needed it done then $750 seems to be a reasonable price.

Over 15 months ago, when buying my block ( 1 acre in VIC )I needed a Re-Establishment Survey, which meant they pegged as well.
Hilly block, so got a Contour Survey at the same time.
Total Cost was approx $1,500.
They supplied printed and computer files, quite handy for later use by Building Designers or Landscape Architects.
