Really hard to find a builder that will do something in a classic style. Aww thanks! Thanks housebythewater - yup we actually have our first house/kitty sitter lined up for next month! In other news, the house in front of our block is up for sale. It's an older house so anything could happen, but it's also well maintained so someone could live there. Co-incidentally we got a notice from our council in the mail (assume everyone got it around here) that new houses can only reach a height of 8 metres. Suits us so we're not blocked out in front! Lucky for us, directly in front is not the city view, that's to the left. I think either way the city view is high enough not to be obstructed. Notice the use of a brick wall enclosure for the subfloor and brick piers in lieu of stumps. this is an expensive way of doing a wb home. But it looks great. Re: Classic style weatherboard Melb -driveway/landscaping- y 685Apr 01, 2016 1:28 pm Hi all, long time no speak. So we've been here for 2 years and 3 months, and are finally having our driveway and landscaping done, which will begin Monday. Due to downwards slope there are heavy excavations and dirt removal (from front to back) required, plus retaining walls. The backyard will just be a blank canvas (our main focus is the front!). Here are some plans for the front: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The 2nd image is the one we're actually going with, we've removed a few items to get the quote down a bit (ie: no bluestone border We wanted off street parking, that's why there's a fair amount of concrete - but it will be aggregate concrete and it will be softened by the overall design. Weather depending the project is meant to take 5-6 weeks. Your house is looking lovely. I like your front landscaping plan. I don't think there is too much concrete at all. We have a fair bit of concrete (driveway little more than 110m2) but once we put a garden in it softened it right up. Make sure you post photos, I'd love to watch the progress ? Your house is looking lovely. Make sure you post photos, I'd love to watch the progress ? Hey HomeAngels! I still get email updates of your house and garden! Yeah your style driveway is what we're after. We haven't been asked to choose an aggregate colour yet! Don't even know which company they'll be sourced from. But a fair amount of earthworks to be done before that decision needs to be made I think. Hope you're enjoying the spa - so jealous!! Yep will definitely be reporting progress with photos. There haven't been many as I've been slack but I'm hoping to have some landscaping ones soon.
Quite often I hear that Mentone Premix has the best aggregates. That's also where we sourced ours. They have so many colours/mixes to choose from too. Your house is gorgeous. It's so nice to see a classic styled house again, they're beautiful. Wow what a view, that view and those sun sets are phenomenal. The landscape plan looks great. Are they doing all the planting too? I'm really keen to see how it turns out so please do post progress pics. Re: Classic style weatherboard Melb -driveway/landscaping- y 691Apr 01, 2016 7:38 pm Thank you cat_dunc. Appreciate that! We THINK so, in regards to the planting. Basically it's going to depend how the funds are going by the time they get to the planting stage, whether we have enough to cover it. I really hope so!! I'll be disappointed if not, but at the same time we needed to get the ball rolling and get the main works done. The planting is really like 5% of the overall work! Yep will do that My Hamptons build (completed): viewtopic.php?f=31&t=63370 Moved in Wednesday 11th Dec 2013 Front landscaping completed June 2016 Re: Classic style weatherboard Melb -driveway/landscaping- y 693Apr 02, 2016 11:10 am Hi again AKB - thank you muchly! We had to remove the bluestone border, or we were never going to be able to get a front yard!
