Post subject:  Exterior Color

We are building on canal in SA. It will be 2 level home.

We are using Midland classic limestone brick. Rough faced brick 290x90x162.
We are thinking of using woodland grey color bond for the roof.I am not sure on the window color & the garage.

Another option for the roof is bushland but I think i prefer the woodland grey.

I've been told to do everything the windows, gutter, fascia, downpipes and the garage in woodland grey.
and another option was to the windows in sandbank (which I don't think I would like too close to the brick) and downpipes sandbank.
I also been told there should be 3 colors in exterior.

I have been given the duluxpowders colors to chose from.

So i am not sure what color to do the windows. Whether i chose woodland grey or something totally different.
Also I am aware whatever color I use for the window outside it will be inside the house.

I am worried that the sandbank is too yellow and not enough contrast but also worried maybe too much woodland grey.

I need help in selecting the gutters, fascia color, downpipes and the garage to match the brick and roof which i think will be woodland grey.

Also whether I should match the downpipes to the house or contrast color.

I have been driving around and noticed people are doing both.

Our neighbor has woodland grey roof and garage. also the driveway is light grey stone finish.
we are putting the same for our driveway so it looks bigger area.

The fence dividing the property is in woodland grey.

thanks
paula

Try posting a pic of your facade. That will help with feedback.

Here's a thread to learn from...

Or I use Postimage link below. Basically you upload an image then copy the url code.

I only have the design from the inside of the house. i will try to get image from the outside.

The style of the brick is on this link;
http://www.boral.com.au/productcatalogu ... oduct=2564

the color is limestone.

I am also trying to work out the mortar style whether to go flush or rolled.
i contacted boral and they sent me the color of the mortar that they recommend to match the brick.

I look forward to ideas.

Hi, I'm wondering why you would want to "feature" your downpipes? In WA the painter matches them to the brick colour so they blend in and don't look unsightly.

Re mortar- imo with the classique there won't be much difference between flush or rolled joints. The rolled may make the individual bricks stand out a just teensy bit more.

If you need a third colour, what about shale grey or dune? Both go well with woodland grey. I'm not familiar with sandbank at all, it might have a different name over here?

With limestone I would keep the windows light, but it depends on what colours you are offered.

Post subject:  Re: Exterior Color

thank you so much for your reply.
i have looked at homes and they are doing downpipes in contrast color.
my architect said to do everything woodland grey.

however reading other people comment, i will make sure the downpipes is the same as the brick.

my color consultant suggested the sandbank for the window and downpipes but i thing it is so much of similar color that sandstone color.

i have attached the website
http://www.colorbondcolours.com/go/bsl- ... h/sandbank

but i am also considering the look inside the house having those window frames.

with my window i did look at those two colors but i lack the confidence to go ahead with it or anything else.

thank-you again for your feedback.

Treeseachanger is very wise :)

Choosing colours can be a bit over whelming but keep looking and asking questions and you'll get there! You're never really sure until the colours are up!

Not sure if this will help you but I have Surfmist roof, silver window frames, dune main render and woodland grey feature contrast (with a small area of Surfmist render)

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l241/butchers/DSC01632_zps88b7cc72.jpg

We ended up with a contrast colour for our down pipes, we had a choice between that or having to paint gutters when they faded. We chose low maintenance and the contrasting down pipes don't look bad at all. Alot of houses seem to have them in our estate (we drove round and looked at them all) but if you can have a matching colour then I would.

Your property looks fantastic. you have done well.

mine is not rendered at all. its all big block brick.
the brick is sandstone color.

i think with the down pipes i will see what the builder says. but i might leave it to match the brick.

Thanks bb, I try

What about paperbark as an alternative for windows, if you would rather match brick more closely? Get 2 pieces of white cardboard about 1m square and paint with sample pots of dune and paperbark, look at them against your brick sample in all different lights at different times of day.

Let us know what you decide! :D And have a great christmas! ::celeb::

Thanks for your reply and for your help.
I like the idea of contrast so i am not sure on paperbark
but at one stage it was an option i was looking at.
i might look at the lighter greys but i finally worked out how to download the image.

this software allows me to play with the color scheme but i am still learning.lol.

so here is the property.

here is the image this is with bushland roof

http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/33 ... hland.jpg/

and here is the image with woodland grey

http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/8437/tumbybayhs1.jpg

When I was looking for interior decorator or designer or color consultant, i didn't know there is difference.

nothing is simple.

I hope you have awesome Christmas and New year full of laugh and fun.

Post subject:  Re: Exterior Color

After lots of thinking;

roof: woodland grey
gutters & fascia : woodland grey
downpipe:sandbank
garage: sandbank
http://www.colorbondcolours.com/go/bsl- ... h/sandbank
the sandbank i think matches the brick.
http://www.boral.com.au/productcatalogu ... oduct=2564

I am not sure on the sandbank if its nice color or its very yellow.

Our garage is quite high and i am worried if using woodland grey it would be too much.
But at the same time using sandbank might not look nice.

has anyone used the color sandbank on their garage door and can you tell me if you liked it.

also has anyone used the color woodland grey do they like the color or is it dark?
does it look nice on the inside of the house too???

and used sandbank on the window does it look nice on the inside of the house & outside....

thanks

Post subject:  Re: Exterior Color

Is sandbank also very close to brick colour? If it is, maybe you should go lighter or darker for a bit more contrast?

Someone recently posted a pic of a woodland grey feature wall...If I find the thread I will post the link. :D

Post subject:  Re: Exterior Color

thank you for your reply.

sandbank is the closest color to the brick. there is 2 garage door facing the front of the house.
and they are quite high. the garage is the first thing you see as the entrance is on the side of the house. also the front is narrow and the block widens up. But the two garage is set back slightly from each other, which is good.

that's why i am worried if i go woodland grey it might be too strong.

other option is cream but then i would change my windows as well to cream.

my options are cream, woodland grey or sandbank

i need to see the sandbank as a garage. i have seen the cream and woodland grey.

I will try to get picture to post up.

look forward to some advise.

Post subject:  Re: Exterior Color

Paula have a look on my thread, someone has posted a pic of a freestanding garage in Evening haze. It will give you more idea of the colour, lighter than paperbark but darker than cream. It's on page 3.

Post subject:  Re: Exterior Color

Thanks..

not sure what to do;

i am thinking of option 1;

same brick the classic limestone by midland rough face.

Roof- woodland grey
gutter -woodland grey
fascia -evening haze
downpipes-match the brick or evening haze
windows- evening haze
garage- evening haze.
eaves- evening haze or woodland (not sure)

OR
option 2

roof- woodland grey
window-woodland grey
gutter & fascia - woodland grey
eaves-woodland grey or off white
downpipes-match the brick
garage - woodland grey

value opinion on the topic.

i just can't decide

thank you

Post subject:  Re: Exterior Color

Hi
We have decided on colors

Roof- Woodland grey
gutter-woodland grey
fascia -woodland grey
gutter - match the brick (sandbank)
garage-woodland grey

eaves- i am not sure.. i keep changing.. should it match the brick which will be sandbank color or woodland grey to match the roof.
Or off white.

I have looked at homes and it seems to vary.

looking forward to hearing an option on where to go

thanks
paula
