Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 19, 2011 7:55 pm Hi all,
Long time reader first time poster! Firstly and introduction, My name is David and I have a lovely partner called Amber, we have just moved from New Zealand (about 7 months ago now) to come and start a life we felt would have been too hard to achieve in NZ. We are both young and wanted to get a house to settle into and start the joys of a family. We wanted to stay in Mount Cotton. One because we love the rural feel of the area, while been close to the city and bayside, and secondly because im soft at heart and wanted to stay close to my parents. We did have a look around for already built houses, but we are looking at a long term home, and wanted it to be modern. In the end, like many people on here, we couldnt find one that was just right for us (im very picky as my partner will tell you!) So after a few months looking around Mount Cotton we decided we liked the development of Silkwood. Silkwood is the 'sister' development to an estate called Cotton Ridge in Mount Cotton. (where my parents are living) so we knew what to expect from the developer, lots of trees and open space! We purchased our block in January of this year, obviously we feel it was the best one in Stage 7! one the top of a slope/hill looking down towards the bush. Its a 724sq metre block Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We decided to go with Ausbuild, my parents home was built by them, and its a very nice solid home. After talking to thier sales consultant, i felt good about this builder, however, due to the increase in cost the house plan it now only 215sq metres. A bit smaller than we hoped, but for a couple just starting out, we felt it fit the bill perfectly. Its a standard kit house, with no modifications (due to the budget) but we are spending money on the internals (upgrading kitchen cooker, stonetop benches etc) We have chosen the steller facade with render to the front aswell. At this moment in time, we submitted to council on the 11th May 2011, and are hoping to move in end of September, we have yet to choose any colours but have the site plans, once i figure out how to upload them, i will! I think that should get started! Finally some head way, although we signed our contract end of March, and have a 20 day to start promise. I recommend Ausbuild to whoever wants a quick contract stage!
