Love the staircase, can't wait for you to take another photo of the staircase in your home the way you took the photo of the staircase at the display home with that special little man in the photo. Are you staining or painting the staircase? Can't wait to see the kitchen... it is getting so close... so excited for you Sorry forgot to say - hope you had a great holiday. Looking forward to seeing all those new plants that you bought while you were away. I was thinking before the gyprock that we had made a mistake and had not put in enough windows in, but now it is plastered it is so much lighter. I cant wait until it has been painted Quote: Congratulations Jen on Lock up. Your house looks great.. Are you staining or painting the staircase? Can't wait to see the kitchen... it is getting so close... so excited for you Thanks Carak my lovely. We are painting the staircase. We would have loved the victorian ash staircase that was in the show home, but it was another $9,000 and we had to stop somewhere. it will be painted white, with the newel posts and the handrail dark grey. A little bit like the picture below, but the stairs will be carpeted. The wall behind the stairs will be painted in the same dark grey as the handrail. It is dulux Namadji One of the things I am happy about, in the show home the stairs had stainless steel horizontal wires for the banisters. They are fine on the stairs, but on the landing that would scare me with Harry. They would be climbed so quickly. We bought heaps of plants! Will have to get a photo of them Modified Fernside 38 Rawson Homes Blog: http://www.thehousethatmatandjenbuilt.blogspot.com Build Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60501 Re: Mat & Jens Port Stephens Rawson Bld- Locked up! 243Apr 29, 2013 11:08 am We are painting the staircase. We have been wondering what to do with ours (if we get bank approval to build that is) and I really like that. Hope you don't mind if we copy - oops almost forgot better ask DH what he thinks, I keep forgetting that building is a 'shared' experience. Completely agree about horizontal wires - or anything horizontal for that matter - children big & small - just have to climb, they will probably still slide down the banisters anyway or at lease slide down the stairs on their tummy. Thankfully DD at 14 has now grown out of that 'phase' or at least I hope she has Re: Mat & Jens Port Stephens Rawson Bld- Locked up! 246Apr 29, 2013 11:24 am Here are the plants that we bought from QLD. I have to say, that we seriously get ripped off in NSW for plants. In QLD they are so cheap, they practically give them away. We bought back 61 plants with us. 27 pots of Chungii bamboo Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ They are currently over 3 metres tall - they are taller than our garage at our rental. The plants are usually $132.00 a pot and then they were reduced to $88.00 a pot and they had a sale on and they were only $15.00 a pot. We bought 27 of them, so the cost would have been $2,376.00 if we got them at $88.00 a pot, but only cost $405.00. These bamboo are very fast growing and grow to 8-10 metres high. I think the neighbours will be shocked when they really start growing Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We also bought a lot of different ginger plants one of them is a beehive ginger Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ and heliconas Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ You dont see them in nursery's near us, but the nursery says that they will grow and flower near us. Heaps of Xanadu - I love this plant Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ and another one of my favourites - purple fountain grass. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ There are still others, but can't recall them all at the moment. I think we are done with plants for awhile, we just have to plant them all now. Our next task (after planting the plants) turf! Lots of it! We want to have quite a bit turfed before we move in. Dogs, clay and white porcelain floors do not go together. I wanted a way to dress up the standard staircase. I am pretty lucky with DH, we have the same likes and dislikes. He has stayed away from the kitchen and that has totally been my domain, even though he keeps reminding me about the cost of everything in there. If we had the horizontal wires on the landing, we would also have to have a trampoline at the bottom as I am sure it would be needed. I am finding our place a little dark in some areas & have already decided to put a skylight in the ensuite. Our 5th bedroom ensuite is the darkest room in our house as it only has a tiny 300mm high window. There is nothing that we can do about it, so we will have to keep the lights on in there. I am sure if we went to sell the house we would not get the extra to cover the staircase. Hoping it will look as good as the picture. As our land is so big and really was devoid of any plants we have had to be a bit creative with buying them or we would have already been broke. Architraves and skirting completed upstairs today and all doors put on. Downstairs we there is the skirting to go and a couple of doors to be put on and then the carpentry fix out is pretty much complete. Will have to go and have a look at your thread. Fix out should have been completed Wednesday 1st May, but the carpenter was required elsewhere, so it was not completed until last Thursday. Garage door finally went on last Monday. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The kitchen should have been going in 2nd or 3rd of May and then it was put back to last week, then it was changed again to today. Thankfully I was at the house this morning and the truck with the kitchen arrive - so it is going in today The block claimed its second victim in 6 months and we are not even living there yet. DD fell off the trampoline (terrible parents for not buying one with a net) and broke her wrist. We spent last Monday at Emergency getting a temporary cast and then today we are back at the fracture clinic getting a proper plaster cast put on.
