Your breakfast bar; I want to do something similar but my joiner looked at me like I was an idiot. Can I steal your photo to show him pretty please? Also, could you tell me how high the shelf is? Is the shelf top the same stone as the normal bench top?

Thanks :D

No probs! Just make sure you show him the pic of it completed and not my earlier 'matchbox' version. I had to make a matchbox version as our kitchen ppl didn't know exactly what we wanted either and I couldn't find any photos!! But the matchbox model and a quick chat meant we were all sorted!
The shelf is the same stone as the normal bench.
The shelf is 300mm above the actual bench (which includes the 40mm of stone).

I was lucky enough to have a look at the kitchen when it was being fitted. The original template for the stone shelf showed it to be too wide and it looked silly, so I & the kitchen guy made an executive decision and changed the width of the shelf! Love it! Looks great, hides stuff and is at the right height to stand there with a cuppa or a glass of vino!

Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions

Oops

Thanks heaps Eiffel.

When I finally got the message through to him he is insisting that a shelf on top would look crap and that it needs to all just be 100mm for the entire 'L' shape.

Hmm I wonder if we could make use of the sink offcut in our stone to make the ledge (how wide is your ledge?) it would have to have a join, but still.....

The width of our shelf/ledge is 250mm.
