Am having a horrible evening. My DP went hiking/camping along Stirling Ridge trail with three of his friends this weekend (they left Saturday 3am and were SUPPOSED to be back today by AT LATEST 4pm).
DP took his Dad's emergency beacon with him, and this evening at 6.30pm it was activated I've been on the phone all evening to Search & Rescue, Albany police, his Dad, the other girlfriends of the other three guys... Am so stressed and worried, none of us can get in contact with them (all phones turned off) and the beacon is still signalling.

Thanks guys I've spoken to the Albany police and the weather is too horrible and the terrain too steep to extract them now. They'll head out and get them at first light in the morning.
Until then, I am sleeping alone (for the third night in a row) wondering if Dave is okay this sucks. I am going to smack him across the head when I see him.

There is a few of them out there, so I am sure they will be alright...they'll stick together, keep each other warm, and sane...and they were smart enough to set off the beacon...they'll be right! and sounds like search and rescue know where they are, so they'll have em quick smart tomorrow!
Big smack please!

Update: it is 6.30am and they are all home safe. Turns out one of them collapsed from exhaustion and after a lot of traversing the mountainside and moving their large hiking packs back and forth, they carried him the last 1.3km out. I am very proud of them
Thx for the lovely support I might forego the smack on the head though... This time!

That's great to hear Ally. So good to hear. That they set off the emergency beacon and continued to work to get themselves out, is great news!! And awesome, awesome news that they're all safe
OMG ... what an awful few days ... you won't let him go again will you??? Glad all turned out well in the end ....

So glad to hear that all is well now, seems like they managed very well in the circumstances and did all the right things - although nothing is worse than sitting at home with all those worrying thoughts, feeling helpless!

Vans, Caz, soakedblonde, McLaren, natsy -> thanks for the comments I am very proud of DP and the others for helping their friend, and getting out safe.
He smelled terrible this morning when he got home, but I was very glad to see him. He had a half an hour nap and then I sent him off to TAFE!

Awww, he's going to be exhausted at TAFE today! Make sure you've got a nice dinner ready for him when he comes back this evening, heh It's a good news article - definitely highlights the benefits of being well prepared when emergency situations arise. Good team work from all the guys to achieve a successful and safe outcome

Yes, poor thing. I put a can of Red Bull in his lunch today...I think he'll need it. I bet he's slumped over his desk right now.
They were well prepared otherwise - warm clothing, food, water, map, compass, GPS, emergency signal beacon (thank god they had this), first aid kit, tents, ponchos, etc. They had it all. It was just the wind/icy rain/thunderstorms that affected them in the end. Really goes to show that, even when you're fully prepared, Mother Nature can still get ya

Haha, yep! I printed out the news article and I'm gonna frame it for him, haha. And tell our kids and grandkids about the time Daddy went hiking and scared the c*ap out of me

Hahaha yep! News stars! I think they are quickly getting embarrassed about it all, lol I feel a bit bad for Liam though - he did SO WELL to get almost to the end. It could have happened to any of them, really.
On another note (now that I have calmed down with them being home safe and sound), ROOF BEGINS!
