Hi there, just been checking out your thread I had somehow forgotten about it as we have spoken before about building with the same franchise. Sounds like your guys are similar to ours & things have been going pretty smoothly for you. It's funny hubby was looking at camper trailers the other day & he came across the name Cavalier trailers & they had great reviews & were a quality product. . .we thought it was an omen Love your house design, bricks, location, gee I just love everything
Happy New Year to everyone! Thanks Kiwi for the New Year wishes. I spent the night at home with Master 20 months because he was exposed to chicken pox on boxing day so we were in quarantine waiting to see if he would come out in spots Looks like we dodged the bullet though. I wouldn't have minded getting them out of the way while he is still too little to scratch himself to bits though
Loretta, thanks for stopping by my thread! I don't know if I told you, but you were my gateway to H1 addiction!! I found you on a google search for Cavalier and read your blog and your thread in entirity! Your home is lovely, beautiful selections and a credit to you and your builder. Reading your personal journey as well as your building story has really touched me, it is an issue very close to my heart, as it is a lot of people. My Nanna had both her breasts removed a few years back. She, like you, has faced it all with such courage and optimism, I am sure that positive thought and prayer has aided her recovery no end. It is so nice to see you being so open and sharing your story, very inspirational.
Thanks Tan for stopping by, you must be crazy busy!! Your place looks amazing. I am going to sneak into your yard and swim in your lovely pool
Tradies should be back tomorrow!
We are expecting sparky to do his rough in, as well as plumber ASAP, as we have already paid our lock up invoice before Chrissy, even though technically we aren't at lock up yet. DH thought it was a bit rude of them to invoice us early, and we could have held off until the stage was complete I guess. I think he will be putting the pressure on if they don't get a bit done this week.
I have roofing pics too, but just realised my camera is in my car, and car is gone until tomorrow night. I have been slack, I know. New Years resolution.... keep thread updated. Guess that kind of follows on from my other resolution- see things to completion

Oh dear so I am to blame for your H1 addiction I think that's how I found it too! Thanks for your kind words & I hope your Nanna continues with good health. Here's hoping your tradies are back working on the house this week.
I'm really happy with the colour, love it! It has a real softness to it. I still would have loved surfmist, but being on the low side of the street, it might have been a bit glary for the neighbours, and we would be forever cleaning the leaf stain off it.

I think we have plenty of people looking in when we aren't there! We are at "lockup" but we don't have any doors!
The neighbours you can see in the last shot live in their double tin shed. With a caravan. And a shipping container. And 4 kids. They are not very friendly either. Our builder gave them $20 bucks to use their power for a few days until they got us connected so the brickies could get started. Neighbour was nice as pie to SS, didn't even want to take the money. The next day SS gets a call from the brickies, they had been abused by her for having the hide to use her power
We are growing shrubs along the boundary to screen them off. Love thy neighbour is easier to put into practice when you don't have to look at them!!
All looks good! Everything appears to be in place with the electrical. Only problem we have is in the ensuite, they haven't plumbed in our second shower head, or framed up our tiled niche in the shower. This is the second thing they haven't communicated to our SS that was on our variations list. DH will ring SS on Monday and follow it up.
He is also going to get onto him about the rubbish. It was a bit windy out there today, rubbish was blowing everywhere, even onto our neighbours' land. This is not acceptable to us, they need to get a skip and clean the site. Just because we are rural we don't need proper lock up or rubbish removal?? I think not.

Wow - your house is looking fantastic and yes, you're right we are just slightly ahead of you!!
Doesn't it change the whole feel once the rooms have been plastered?
If it's any consolotion, your plasterers look very tidy inside!! Don't worry about not having a skip, we've got one but it's full and all the rubbish is stacked behind it!!

House is looking great, love the roof & yes it does have a softness & blends in well with the environment. You really have to be there all the time checking for mistakes!!

It certainly feels more like a house now that you can't walk through the walls! I think DS was a bit put out though- he was small enough to just walk through wherever he pleased, now he has to use the halls and doorways like the big people!
The plasterers are very tidy! I think they are our tidiest tradies yet. All their offcuts are neatly stacked in the garage, not just chucked outside. I can't wait for the ceiling to go up now!

Thanks Loretta, it's probably not to everyone's liking, but we are pleased with it. I can't wait to landscape though, that will bring it to life.
I sometimes wonder how many mistakes there would be at PCI if we weren't going out there regularly and checking each stage. The plumbing will be easy enough to fix up, not so much of a small job once the tiling is done! I'm sure they'll be onto it once we point it out though, they have been pretty good at following things up for us. As I keep saying to DH, it's the way they deal with the mistakes that matters.
Love the roof .... looks like you've had lots of progress - looks huge. It's a shame that you have to find the mistakes though isn't it? We had a problem with rubbish too - no skip for the last 3 months of the build - I bet our neighbours were impressed!

Thanks Mclaren, we are happy with it all, dispite the mistakes. I think because they didn't follow the correct procedure and rushed our contracts through, they haven't got all the paperwork spot on.
DH rang our SS today and let him know about the plumbing issues, he is going to get onto it for us. He also told him that we weren't happy about the rubbish blowing around everywhere, and maybe told a little fib and said our neighbours had complained. They are still not getting us a skip though, but he said he will build a cage for the light stuff so it is contained
I can't wait to go out there again this week when the plastering is finished!! I wander around in there for ages like a fool, DH thinks I am a bit special

you are special....as were we when we were all building. we all did the same, cos we too are special.
when you first see walls, you run from room to room..
from then on it is a wander and a think and an imagine in each room...how it will be, what it will be decorated in, and what will happen in there with the people you love
it is a great experience..so you enjoy it, you special thing,.

Wish I'd said that ... it's so true - we are all special (in our own strange way)

I love it all Jess, it looks just perfect nestled in there will all your trees & beautiful surroundings. It looks so cosy & inviting & it really does blend in well
I am massively jealous of your fireplace, I really wanted one but our budget was already through the roof DH is a qualified gas fitter, I might convince him to install a gas one down the track
Seems stupid that you can't have a bin on site!? I've never heard of that! I guess a cage is better than nothing & it will hopefully prevent it from spreading around.
I agree with Kiwi & McLaren, we are all "special" it is soooo exciting once the walls go up & you can actually walk around your new home, imagining where furniture etc is going to be or better yet, imagining you & your family all in there. Building is stressful but also exciting so be sure to enjoy the process! I was very special during our build, every night once the kids were asleep I would wander through the new house, I reckon I'd spend 1/2hr a night in there! bad I know....
