Hi build again, thanks for visiting It would be great to be in by Christmas but I'm not holding my breath. In a way I think I would prefer January then Christmas do's are all out the way. Here's hoping your site will be cut tomorrow

The builder has the signed final plans and selection documents today, no more changes for us All council approvals are through so hopefully we will see action on the block 'soon'.

Thanks Gogo, there I was saying no more changes and DH decides he wants the French doors opening INTO the bedroom It was always my preference but went along with him and he decides at the last minute something about maybe the hinges will be too exposed to the weather and go rusty. Hopefully it's not too late to change them without incurring a fee.
Thanks, WO, I can't wait to get started, seems to have taken such a long time.

We have been having discussions with the person who looks after the site cut and fill in regards to our initial plan which had been drawn. She came out to our site and we discussed a different cut and fill to marry in with our neigbours build. We decided to do a smaller cut but more fill on our site which will bring our house up a bit more for better stormwater drainage. The other benefit of this is that I will have a better view of the hills! This morning I received an email to say the builder may 'bench' our site this week, subject to weather. So a start is very close!

All documentation has been forwarded to the contractors and a building schedule is currently being drawn up. No slab yet, build again, but I believe it will start next week subject to weather. Great to see you're almost there

We have been benched well, almost.
The small cut has been done and a truckload of soil has been brought in for the fill. I was talking to the fellow in the bobcat and he says it will need another 100 tonne
Anyway it is great to see something finally happening on the block, hopefully more will be done in the next two days before it rains again.
Yay, let the Games begin! Looks like you will have a beautiful mud pit there. Hopefully the rain will stay away for you and they can get the slab down quickly.

Well, our block is saturated from recent rains and the builder is unable to do much with it at the moment. Whereas I am glad they are doing the job properly I'm also hanging out for a substantial start *sigh*.
Our neighbours have been really good, dug and connected their stormwater to help stop the runoff, they also put a soil 'wall' at the back of their house to help steer water away.
Some more soil was dumped today but I think the block is too wet to spread it out, the heavy machinery can do more damage than good.
I can understand your impatience for them to start, but if your block is still too wet and muddy, then it is better if they wait a little longer. We have had a few frustrating 'breaks' where nothing was happening, but it looks like the end product is certainly worth it and the quality will be very good.
The forecast for the next week doesn't show too much rain so I've got everything crossed for you that your block will dry out enough and they can really start. And by the sounds of it your neighbours are really good and helpful as well, which is nice. It is always good to get off to a nice, friendly start with the neighbours.

Thanks T72, that's what I like about H1 - everyone knows how we're feeling at each stage and is so supportive. Still, we haven't been waiting as long as you, it's only been 18 months since we settled the land. The soil that was laid previously has got quite a few puddles just from the weekend, prior to that it seemed quite crusty.

Agreed and they are similar age with 2 boys in their late teens, same age as my youngest son. We are the only two houses on the court so we really need to get on ok.
Aww soo exciting, fingers crossed it stays like it has been today sun is shining - I thought I read on the weather sites it was meant to be raining the rest of the week, glad it's not so my outside work can get done.

That sounds good and hopefully will be nice for you. We have a similar situation with our new neighbours. It appears that there will be all young families on our little street. We have met a few of them already and they all seem nice. Everyone there has 2 or 3 children and most of them are under 7 years old, so there will be plenty of playmates for everyone around.

I love the open space behind your block. So good to clear your mind... will you be able to see it when all is done? Step outside with a cup of tea and pretend the rest of the world isn't there?
The weather is so frustrating, isn't it. I know there was some delay in the start of our site stuff because of rain. Then it suddenly dried up for a few days and they did all of the footings/slab really quickly. Hope the same happens for you

At this stage anything that happens is exciting. Even if it is just a bit of dirt being dumped.
BTW have you got a site toilet yet? As sad as it is, but that is quite exciting because it means that they are really serious about starting to do work.

We hope so for many years to come as it is rural farming land behind us, it may get sold down the track but we think it will be at least 10 years by the time the land use is changed etc. We have a treeed reserve to the left of our block too, the ducks love it

No loo yet, but the rest of the soil has been dumped, just hope there is not too much rain for the next week or so... On the up side, the soil should be getting nicely compacted with the rain
