We are about the start our build but we are getting the builder to just do the basic lights and getting a friend to do the electrical fitout - should there be 1 d/light for each sq m or for every 1.5sq m.

Thanks

I am far from an expert on this- and there is probably someone who has a better idea than I do but my understanding was that they will light up an area of approximately 1.5m....That may depend on the type of downlight I guess- I'm not really sure.

Our electricians chatted with me about what I was looking for but they sorted out the exact placement. I think the measurements were about 1.5m but it depended on where the beams were etc.

Have you done a search on H1?- I am sure there are probably countless threads on downlights and you'll probably find the answer in one of those threads

The rule of thumb I used (from memory :th: ) was 1m from the wall and 2m between downlights. It does vary depending upon the room shape but it has worked really well. We have white walls, ceiling and darkish floors. The amount of light is great.

Also, put some thought into how you want your downlights banked (ie how many turn on per switch). You can save a lot in lighting costs by only having the lights on that you really need. (ie. if you have a big room with 8, have 2 lots of 4 or 4 lots of 2).
