kiwi whatever do you mean? Haha
Nitchfarms, yes I'm very lucky. I feel lucky to build a house the way I like too. I'd have it a bit bigger and add another room (play room? craft room? music room?) if I could and I'd go all out on the decor but since I live in reality, I'm really fortunate to be building this particular house and I'm so happy with it all. Can't wait to get in there.
How bizarre - you've got your garage door before your bricks, your cornices before your kitchen - that's not the way they've done ours ... interesting

I know what you mean, I wish we went a little wider with the house, if only through the open plan area. I was very lucky also but need to keep hoping and praying that we have some good years on the farm to pay for it all now If I had unlimited funds I think I still would have built a very similar style of house but would have had ceiling to floor windows through the open plan area and had raked ceilings with windows up top to let in light. It will take me years yet to complete the look inside with new lounge suites and dining chairs, breakfast bar stools, another tv, low line tv unit etc on the cards, but that gives me something to look forward to and work towards. I am just so in love with what I have now with the new house I went over there today (just a walk for me) and put the interior of my ovens together just so I could do something over there!!!!!
I look forward to watching the progress of your beautiful home as well!

Nitchfarms, I feel the same as you. Its going to take time to get the inside together and I'm actually looking forward to it being a continuous project rather than just moving in all finished. The space in the open living area is where we cut down unfortunately to make it more affordable and the windows from floor to near ceiling would have been lovely. But I'm loving the compromise and my main goal was to make it feel like a home and somewhere we can all relax. I wanted to be able to mix some of the old with the new and the classic with the modern. I'm hoping this style of home will enable that. I love looking around for old bargains so now that I'll have a place for it all I'm really excited about it.
I'm hoping to have a yellow paint called very cashmere in the kitchen, living, dining, family and meals too, I notice you have a lovely color in similar areas.
Well today's progress report is that we now have our home all locked up. Our alfresco doors look amazing, I'm so happy with them. Cannot wait to see them painted up.
The servery window isn't in yet but I hear its being measured up so we'll have that in soon. For the moment its boarded up.
Mclaren - I know, its very bizarre, our last house was definately not built in this order but all is well and the bricks have started. I was beginning to think they had forgotten the outside. Apparently the bricks should be done in a week as its not the whole house being bricked.
Pleased to hear it's all on track. I'm a bit like you too can't wait to get in the house and then start working towards getting everything else sorted out - will be a lot of work but so worth it!!

just come across your thread, love the piccies, wish I had got here earlier to see the design. We have spent about 6 months designing and redesigning to get the 'right' plan and are finally happy with the current one which will be going to a couple of builders for quotes soon. I read earlier in your thread "if you don't touch the design for two months it is the one" or something like that and this one has been sitting for about a month now It will probably be tweaked once it goes to a builder but in at the moment I look at it and think there is nothing I really want to change.
I love the country look and we would like to have a weatherboard type cladding but not so many builders use it so becomes more expensive. Like you, I would like to have some on the front at least but hubby definately does not want bricks so we will probably go mostly hebel. Your brick colour is unusual - what is it? I look forward to seeing them put up.

dreamcometrue, yes I'm pretty sure that whoever said it first that if you don't touch your plan for a while then that's the one (might have been kiwi) is right. We are really happy with our plan and even though if we had a larger budget we'd make some spaces bigger we wouldn't change the actual floor plan. That said we havn't moved in yet but having walked through it a few times now I'm pretty sure we've done all the right things to suit us.
Sounds like you've gotten to this stage too which is fantastic and a relief!
The brick is called 'Rice' by PGH bricks. I'm happy with them too as I was really unsure I'd find something I liked in our budget but I'm happy with them and now that I can see them going up I feel like I made the right choice.
I'll post some photos of them up next. As they really made headway on the bricks today.

yep that became my rule...when I didnt touch it for 3 mths, I was ready to get it drawn up by an architect (well, a designer! cant afford architects!) and then when we started to build, I changed one door to swing the other way, and made one wall shorter, and that was it really.
and now we are in it, I wouldnt change anything, but I think that was cos we had 3 yrs to think about it, I bloomin shouldnt be changing anything!!!

I'm not sure to be honest, I know that the builder uses Taubmans but white birch which is also known as white opal is a dulux color. I've been told I can have it so that's all I was worried about. It's really lovely on the windows. Its definately not too cream which I was worried it might be. It's not exactly white either but given there's little selection with the aluminium window colors I think we made the right choice.

I was so shocked when I went to the house today to see they had done a fair bit today! The cladding has been started, I'd say half done actually and the brickies have made great progress. I'm thinking maybe we will get in there next month. What do you think?
