How about this rain?!?!? ::hyst:: I don't dare go to the site in fear of what I might see... Record rain from what I have heard. We had amazing brick progress on Monday (bricks about 2/3 done) and getting ready for the deck so we are only a few days away from roof. Then kaboom! the heavens open up. Oh well. Might have to put my energies into chasing Mr S Demon man.

T - our builds seem to strangely echo each other. Although we only had misty rain for a short while this morning, the builders have not been at work today - or if they had they left very early...they were there later last night finishing off the trusses but I was told they would still be there doing everything this week...lets hope they are back on both our sites for the rest of the week

I'm with you on the rain, Sunshine. Why won't it go away!? Doesn't it know we have houses to be built!? *shakes fist at sky*

Hi T.

I just wanted to ask about the ethernet cabling thing.

What sort of switch are you going to deploy? Are you installing a 8 port 1Gb switch?
If that case, it requires the power 24/7 days, did you plan to install an UPS and power spike etc.

I was thinking of that, too but it requires some plan and some MONEY to do. Can you share your idea pls? :)

I think it's the five dock house in the grand designs Australia tonight T, on lifestyle, but think you can watch it online after it has aired. Probably not as interesting for you, but I'm down the road!

thanks greenfish, daveandally, apue, okjorg and nina.

Well, to our surprise we had internal plumbing today. :z: Some more to finish off tomorrow. Rain has eased so I am wondering if the brickies will be back? They only have 2 more teeny weeny days to go...

Apue - oh dear... that is WAY too technical for me. But my DH has been looking at all this very closely. So I will ask him tonight and reply later.

nina - I would love to. But don't you have to be a FOXTEL subscriber to get the FOXTEl Catch Up? Surely the non-subscribing public can't watch it? Or can they? I would love to see that episode!!!

jodge - thanks mate! You bet it is a nice surprise. :)

Hi T.
Can I ask what is the width of the stairs?

Zen advised my one is 1000mm and I'm not sure if it's wide enough particularly my one is U shape.

What did you reckon to that view Jodge? Did you manage to get the control? Ooh, making me wish we'd looked at having our living upstairs now like T.
T, sorry, perhaps you can't get it after all. I've seen the house in person and wasn't that impressed from the outside, but having seen the inside now with those views ::kissed:: and so light everywhere - gorgeous!

Apue - this is DH's response: "Probably looking at a 16 or 24 port. No....no UPS, but very considerate of surge protectors". Now I have no idea what that means, but hope it makes sense to you! I do know that we are installing Cat6 everywhere. DH works in computers, so he has bought all the cabling himself (currently used as our bedside table in the rental! ). For our tender, we have owner to supply all ethernet and audio cabling and Zen electrician to install.

Stairs - ours are 1000mm too. We also have U shaped like you. I think 1000mm is fine (this is what the Masterton display homes had). If you are unsure, go out to a display home and measure the widths that way. For our external stairs we are having 1000 also, even though I wanted 900mm (as I didn't want to cut into our patio too much).

nina - ooooooh, that episode sounds great. Upstairs living you say with views? Nice choice

Thanks T. Yeah. makes sense. 24 would be more than enough for average home unless you want to install the port in bath/toilet.

I need to do narrow down my priority list. Too many things in parallel and doesn't help my decision making.

1. Retaining wall
2. Fix the floorplan.

I'm supposed to meet Andrew next week so I should prepare all my wish list inclusion by then.. Busy busy..

like Andrew!!!  split slabs cost more in construction but save more again in retaining walls. Can you post your plans in this (your thread) so we can see what options you have for split level?

well, another nice surprise today. Drove past this morning and not only were the plumbers back but the brickies were there too - 11 men in total. Plumbing mostly done, bricks mostly done. What a commotion of work and mess. What excitement! Here is a pic from this arvo...

[ img ]

Brickies said they are back tmrw (Sat) to finish off. Unfortunately they need a beam or something for over the 4.5m sliders, so that will be Monday. They will also come back in a few weeks to do the two retaining walls and patio bench, but most importantly the house work will be finished soon. :z: Bring on the decking and roof!! T
