I'm thinking of roller blinds initially, since I prefer the clean look and hopefully more maintenance-friendly. However not sure how it's going to work with some of the windows that have short length.

We are going for PCI next week - eep !!! Our build is on track to finish earlier than the anticipated handover.

For people who've done PCI, how long before you got keys.

Congrats budgnbear, busy times ahead for you guys

Does anyone use or planning to use other types of window coverings for the bedrooms aside from plantation shutters? I don't particularly like the shutters because mainly they are expensive for my budget and I think would be a pain to clean, but can't really think of anything that would be applicable especially for the windows that run horizontally above the bed.
Any ideas?

I am using vertical rolling blinds from Mermet with an aluminium chain rail for most of my windows. They really suit the clean look I am going for and fit inside the frames for a hidden look. They are not the cheapest option I am sure but they are a million times cheaper than plantations (which I am personally not a huge fan of :th: ). That said, I have put a workspace in the garage with some windows. I will probably use aluminium plantations purely fabrics would not stand a chance in that environment.

Later on when I have some time (after the Garden, the Deck, the... so never) I will probably clean up the look with some feature / contrast pelmets as a DIY project.

Hi all

First post on this forum. We too are building with McDonald Jones and right up til they had our signed contracts, they have been very punctual.

I was wondering, how long from when you returned your signed contracts to McDonald Jones, you received confirmation that it had been submitted to council? Its been almost 4 weeks now.

We signed contracts on 3/8 and submitted to council 13/8 but only just showed up on council website today (Our CLO said the computer system has been down so we didn't get a text so maybe just follow up with your CLO)

Took 4 weeks to make it to council...internal MDJ issues. Not great but not much we can do.

Hey guys,

Been a lurker here for a little bit and been reading through this thred for some time. Me and my fiancee have decided to build a new home with MDJH. I have been picking up some good tips here and there throughout this thread but i'm FAR from getting through all the pages.

I was wondering if people could list their tips/ suggestions/ warnings etc for a first home buyer like myself and working with MDJH. Thanks in advance!!

Wishing u all the best with your projects!
Ben

Welcome Ben!
We're almost done, it's been a good process so far. MJH and our bank have been very good. Our land settled last September so it's been 12 months all up.

What plan are you looking at?

If you can, I'd ask for a private certifier to get things moving quicker - ours only took 10 days instead of 6 weeks plus through council.

MJH has quite dear upgrades, think of what you can't do yourself afterwards, and try to stick to a budget. We're getting our lights, TV antenna, heater/fan/light done after handover as we couldn't justify their price for down lights. But, things like the carpet/tiles we just got them to do as it would be part of the mortgage. We can spend a fortune at colours and upgrades if you have an endless budget!

Nice one nickle_31.
We were told our plans went to council 3/8 and our council has not updated their website since the same date, they usually update every week, but they haven't for 3 weeks now, our plans are not listed. So right now we have no idea what's happening.
That's ok, just a little disappointed, no big deal though.
But sounds like others are having a few wins... so I am happy for them. ::smile::

I was getting a little worried to when it wasn't appearing on the website - sounds like your council is on leave :-(... I hope you have some good news this week!!!
