Glad I found this sight. Very helpful. The installation of the fans is not a bad price. And the downlight price is ok too. Our plans are still with the engineer and won't be in council for another 2 or 3 weeks. This is ridiculous. This will be our 6th house that we have built since 1992 and I after all this hassle, hopefully the last. There is a Masterson Home getting build around the corner from our block and it is flying along. Pity it was the last house to sign on with them before they stopped building up here. O well, hope everyone is having a stress free weekend and not thinking too much about house building. Cheers! We have included all our wish list items, like 2.7m ceilings, which have put us right on our budget limit. I was wondering what everyone's experiences have been when speak to costas about electrical and colour consultants to chose bricks, colours etc. Have you gone way over budget? Is there a good range to chose from in the standard range of bricks/colours etc? We're not having downlights so I think that will be a saving but I'd like to hear other's experiences, please! Ta. I can only speak for the Genesis series as i am building the Merlot and they have a great list of bricks but when you go to Austral half are not available anymore and the others are discontinued. Beechwood should replace the ones that are discontinued with others in my opinion. So really i didnt have many to choose from. This is in the Newcastle region not sure about other regions. Acre and JacknRuby are great for advice on Costas their posts have been really helpful in working out prices in my budget. Here are some photos......still waiting on lounges for some rooms....but we are liking the open space and just love the tiles. They look fantastic for the price we paid. If you are looking at tiles, try the tile mega mart at Smithfield, great tiles for a great price. I just read through your timeframe and am I reading correctly? Did it take 19 months to finish everything? How you did'nt have a nervous breakdown is a miracle. I bet your glad it's all over. lol: Ten months was the longest build for us and 4 months was the quickest. And that's from deposit to handover. I'm thinking this build will probably beat your time. I reckon it will take 2 yrs for us. Cheers! Building Hermitage 2005 (Upper Hunter) Paid Deposit (October 2010) Re: Who is building with Beechwood 209Mar 28, 2011 1:22 pm Pennygirl-this sounds exactly like us. Plus we too went to Austral and were told the heritage series was discontinued. But they don't give you others to choose from. So frustrating. I just picked the Almond. Plain off white. I was so sick of looking at bricks. Plus, we live in Muswellbrook and you'd think Beechwood would let you know that there is a brick display centre in Scone ( 20min away). But no. We were travelling for nearly 2 hrs to Mayfield. Unbelievable. Cheers! Question: Can anyone clarify when the building time (ie 24 weeks) starts from?? I was told by Beechwood that it began at the begining of the 28 day breakdown period in which time construction is meant to begin. Other people have been told it is at the end of that 28 day period. I suspect it must be the latter. I haven't yet heard anyone say they were in 4 weeks earlier than expected. Would love to know for sure though. Although when i chose theses they did tell me that the new batch is totally different to the previous batches as their place was flooded in QLD and now they are made in NSW (i think that is correct) So the lady gave me address that had built with these but my batch would be different(sounds confusing i know) Just starting -i love the colour of your walls. The house looks great. Worth all the wait i bet! Anna- we probably will be building around the same time frame. Did they give you a colour package yet? they were going to post mine but i hadnt received it so i phoned them and arranged to pick it up. Jacknruby- I found another 3 Beechwoods not sure which one yet but they look like Genesis, Great to be able to see different bricks etc and facades and see how their time frame is. They told me 2 -3 weeks for the plans to be draw up so i am waiting till next week then i shall call them if i havent heard. There were some address in that Austral gave me in Rutherford for the bricks i like so i may go for a drive on the weekend. The bricks are the biggest decision I think you will have to make. Our bricks that we originally wanted were discontinued.......but we went to talk to our local brick "dealer" and he said I wouldn't have built with those bricks as they weren't what they were cracked up to be. We ended up going with the impressions range, colour Moccasin, which we are very happy with. I suggest that you talk to your "dealer" and ask about the quality of the bricks before any of you decide which ones you are going with. just starting Lake View Lodge - Beechwood deposit 17/08/09 Council April 10 signed contract 11/06 earthworks started 9/07 slab completed 8/09/10 Frames 21/09/10 bricking finished 13/10/10 roof 22/10/10 Gyprock 22/11/10 Tiles bathroom 21/12/10 Kitchen in 21/12/10 Painting 09/02/11 handover 11/03/11 We are in 15/03/11!!!!!!!! http://kathdom.blogspot.com/ Re: Who is building with Beechwood 220Mar 29, 2011 1:47 pm Pennygirl Anna- we probably will be building around the same time frame. Hi Penny, We got our colors and everything done and contracts signed in February. We were given our color pack at the display home when we paid our deposit. It was completely overwhelming!! Plus as it turn out, in alot of cases they give you a lot more options with things when it comes to making the decisions when you sign your contract. For example our pack gave us the choice of 6 or 8 internal door designs. When we went to make our choices we had about 20 or more to choose from and ended up changing our minds! We've picked up and dropped off paperwork a few times just to try to speed things up a bit. It might only mean a couple of days here or there but if it means a few days closer to the finnished house it's worth it!! Hope everything runs smoothly for you!
