Hi
I'm building with the company my DH works for so I won't be using names so I shall name them The Company (yes I love Wentworth Miller...) anyway received our soil report back and class M yay!! Because there is a slight slope (not visible to the naked eye...but I am assured there is one!)
We will need to scrape and fill and use piers and retaining walls...but all in all not too bad. No rock which is great!!
So here we go again. Gonna be a challenge explaining our progress, but I'll give it a crack..

Very relieved that there wasn't any rock. We were pretty sure it was going to come back with some, and with H class slab so pretty good so far. DH ran a million tests on the block before we deposited so there better not be any surprises Let's hope our luck hasn't run out.... Looking forward to the process - (am already confused about what colours...)

Welcome to the area and best of luck with the build! My Dad's currently renting in WW while he waits for his house to be finished over the road in Riverdale. WW is a nice estate

Thanks HTB! Looking forward to the house and the move!
Are you moving far? We moved from Vermont. I love living here, wished we had done it earlier
From Greensborough/Bundoora area - so not far. To be honest, wanted to stay here but need some space and no houses for sale had a backyard So we've moved further north. Lovely area - and am familiar with everything so it's not a big move.

Thanks. Wasn't looking in WW specifically, more a particular size block of land. Wanted bigger, but happy enough with this one. Have many friends in Riverdale and MV, and also in Doreen so I may be further away from the city but closer to friends

Your house looks lovely. Love the fridge
Thanks! A bit like you moving to Mernda has also brought me closer to people, mostly my family and since being on here I now have a lot of friends in the area, I know more people here than where I used to live in Thornbury and Fairfield, I love it!

I looking forward to following your build Do you have any plans of your house? Having a DH who works for the company will be great - less hassles.
Hope so!! It also means I can't be as open and honest as I wanted to. He didn't care if I mentioned the company (said I could rave about him being the best salesman around ) but I didn't want to take the risk of him getting into any grief!! so I've decided at this stage not to name the builder We'll see how long I can keep quiet
We'll see how he pulls it off....he knows his stuff and it does my head in...I just want to make sure there is enough light in the kitchen and I have good underlay for the carpet and he is going on about fill and retaining walls and concrete piers.... .

He obviously loves his job!.....time to stock your fridge with some bevvies...sounds like you'll need them

Vermont? Wow? What made you move to the north?
Wanted a bigger backyard mostly and while our old house was big enough I wanted something newer but we didn't want the bigger mortgage to go with it. I went through some displays one day after going to a Market and I got the building bug! To be honest I hadn't heard of Mernda, Doreen, Whittlesea or Sth Morang I had only heard of Epping Plaza Didn't grow up in Melb DH works 20min away down Plenty Rd so Mernda seemed like a good spot. So now we have a lovely big home, big backyard and a not so big mortgage

Good luck!!
How far away from starting are you? How big is your block?

What are you building.... single storey? Double? How many bedrooms...? If we can't have plans and photos, we at least need details.
19 x 32: that's a good-sized block, a little bigger than ours - and we squeezed a 35-square single storey on ours. Can you guess we didn't want a big backyard?

Double storey - (so bigger back yard ), normal things including 4 bedrooms, study, rumpus (which was supposed to be the kids toy room, so explain to me why DH is getting HT quotes?) , and alfresco. Wishing the laundry was bigger, but hey can't have everything but DH is extending the garage so won't need shed in the backyard.

...and somehow most of my last post disappeared!
Anyway...I was thinking about colours and why they have my so confused this time around. When we built this house, I didn't have any set idea and wanted simple and neutral and it worked really well...so what's my problem this time around and why am I so stressed about it....
I'm hearing you! Colours this time around was hard for me too. Even thought I liked/loved 98% of what I picked I still stressed about it. I love my kitchen it's white and light but hated it with my old furniture. It's only since I got our new couch etc I've really taken to it. I had some issues with our splashback colour but again it's grown on me. I LOVE our paint colour
I'm sure what you pick/choose will turn out just fine It's such a hard job though What sort of colours are you thinking of?
