Now I've been watching and reading various posts, adding a few posts here and there and as someone reminded me, I really should start my own thread (could possibly venture out into a blog - but probably later! ).
It all started last year when out house hunting and getting depressed about the tiny size of established houses in the area (originally looking to renovate) when we came across a beautiful block of land (700sqm) in the right area with a tiny 2 bedroom house. DH suggested how about we knock it down and rebuild what we want!
Current Front yard [ img ] Current Back yard - lots of beautiful established fruit trees but all in the wrong spot! [ img ]
So we've been in negotiations and will be building the Fernleigh 36B - although we haven't signed a building contract yet!
We've made only minor changes to the floorplan - Garage extended forward 1m (removing the pillars) and widened 60cm - Doubled the size of the wardrobes in beds 2 & 3 - Cavity slider to close off the 'great room' - doors to the study and WIR - Windows to side of great room, laundry, living room, bedroom 1 and upstairs lounge
External Colour Selections
Bricks - PGH Pearl Grey (with ironed off white mortar) [ img ] Roof - Monier Traditional Roof Tiles in Barramundi [ img ] Gutters - Monument Fascia - Dune Downpipes - Dune Windows - Silver Front Door - Taubmans Jet Grey (dark blue grey)
Demolition should hopefully commence 30 June!
We are very excited but frustrated that nothing is happening just yet! Stay tuned for more exciting pictures when we actually get to demolition!
The Roses

Hi The Roses, The new house will look great and think of all the extra room. I can understand why you would remove the pillars as I could see someone (me) running into them. Hope things pick up soon.

Nice choice of brick I cannot wait to see the brick with the off white mortar and the colours in our builds are quite similar Very nice plans, love the big linen cupboard.
Thanks all! I'm so excited to have posts on my thread!
R, The pillars definitely had to go - DH had the same fear and the car is DH's pride and joy and essentially treated like the first born son... Looking forward to the space, not looking forward to the cleaning!
Tillie, my DH looks upon you as our saviour as it was your pictures that finally convinced me we didn't have to upgrade the bricks! [DH interjects a "hell yeah!" in background]
The linen cupboard is going to be my kitchen equipment storeroom - bread maker, food processor, cast iron pots etc! I looove cooking and can't wait to use my shiny new toys!
Jess, I have found everyone's threads about their own colour selections so helpful - a great source of inspiration and shared stress about selections, makes me feel more normal!

Mrs Rose, R and R and Building with Coral 2009 I am glad that my pics have eased any doubt that you may have, as I was SO VERY worried about my colour choices and the brick But I am absoloutely thrilled with how they have turned out and look forward to all of your brick pics
It will be interesting to see with the differeing mortars etc... Fingers crossed that the bricks are not too far away
PS I thought that I was the only one with the Pear Grey brick and maybe I had "different" taste, as in my thread I have stated that I am fashion and also colour challenged Michelle's thread was also a great help with the external and internal colours

Hi All,
To help kill the boredom I thought I'd update my thread - we're waiting for something.... anything.... to happen to progress our house (still waiting for construction plans, building contract signing and electrical appointment). We're both so excited but frustrated that there is nothing we can do to speed this process up!
Anyway.... [rant over]
After admiring many peoples colour selections and trying to get a hold on what colour scheme I'd like I've gone with beige to charcoal tones throughout the house. We have all dark brown furniture so I didn't want to overdose on chocolate colours!
Internal Paint - Taubmans Living Proof Silk in Moon River (similar colour to Dulux Hog Bristle - I've inlcuded it instead as I didn't have a sample of Hazel Snow). Skirtings, architraves, ceilings and doors to be painted white. [ img ] Downstairs Flooring Queensland Spotted Gum with waterbased gloss coating - brings out the browns, greys and olive tones in the wood. [ img ]
Kitchen Benchtop - 20mm Quantum Quartz Catalina [ img ] Cupboards - Polyurethane High Gloss in New Antique White... I'm still a bit iffy on my choice, I originally wanted to go with Alabaster but was talked out of it on the day.... Its not as pink in real life more like a very light beige/off white. [ img ] SMEG appliances - 90cm freestanding cooker and rangehood (ducted externally), 60cm wall oven, dishwasher. Splashback - still undecided, will probably go with a glass one but do it after handover... so I can see how all the colours work together... happy for any suggestions...
Bathroom & Ensuite Floor & Bathtub Hob - Manhatten Espresso 200x200 tiles - standard range Wall - Gloss White 200x300 - laid vertically so that the grout lines line up with the floor tiles No feature tile - we'll have chrome heated towel rail and fixtures instead. Not a picture of my exact selections except for the floor tile but at least it shows it against a white wall tile... [ img ] Basin - Caroma Liano inset (square) Bath - Stylus Newbury 1700mm (rectangular) Vanity Benchtop - 20mm Quantum Quartz Luna White [ img ] Vanity - Laminex Espresso Ligna [ img ] Caroma Aqua Mixers to basin, shower and bath
Powder Room & Laundry Floor & skirting - Manhatten Espresso 200x200 tiles - standard range PR vanity - Laminex Fudgestream in horizontal (I fell in love with Suh's and just had to have it!) [ img ] Vanity Benchtop - 20mm Quantum Quartz Luna White [ img ] PR Splashback - Rococo Latte in vertical [ img ] Laundry Splash - boring beige tile in vertical - matches wall paint Caroma Aqua Mixer to PR only
What do people think? have I achieved my goal of browns and charcoals? or will it be too much...

OK, now we were expecting the house to be demolished by the end of the week. DH was expecting to be onsite however he received an email Monday lunchtime saying it'll be finished by the end of the day!! Abracadabra! its all gone!!!
[ img ] There is no fence b/w us and our neighbour, hence our desire to be onsite to make sure nothing was damaged as his carport is right on the boundary!
[ img ] Hope it wasn't workers comp! and at least they enjoyed the oranges too... it was a shame to lose the fruit trees but we wanted a backyard more!

Clean slate to start from Very nice pics, shame about the fruit trees, but amybe you could get the dwarf varieties???
Can't wait to see the bricks and off white mortar!!!!
Hi Tillie,
We're definitely hoping to do some dwarf fruit trees - maybe the combined ones... eg lemon with lime. At least we know they'll grow well!
Still waiting to sign the building contract. So no start date on the bricks with white!

Thanks R!
We're just so excited to finally have a child to go with the "family" house we're building! Everyone has always looked slightly perplexed that we're moving out to the 'burbs' and building a 4 bedroom house when we didn't have kids...
We were back out there today looking at the same pile of dirt, walked around enjoying the sunshine (its good building weather!), feeling more positive about the whole building gig... want that pile of dirt gone and a house there instead!! faster! faster!

Thanks Jess! We've actually been referring to it as "the bean" or "beanie baby" so "jellybean" is more than apt! We think its very cute and definitely takes after DH with the big head!! Although the doctor assures me it will become more in proportion with the rest of the body!
