Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 25, 2009 2:43 pm Hello I have a bit of a crazy question - but as you've all been so helpful to date - I figure it can't help to ask!! Does anyone know about any cheap, temporary structures we can erect on our land (that don't need council approval??) while we build our home?? ie. maybe something a step up from hiring a caravan to sleep in as we have two little ones!! The current house on the block is uninhabitable (!) but it is so costly to have to rent somewhere else and also be paying off the mortgage on the property. Of course, we'd have to do that once they start the knock down/ build... but I expect there's going to be some time when we are just waiting for plans to be approved etc?? Any ideas would be most helpful!! Thanks. Re: temporary accommodation while building?? 2May 25, 2009 4:08 pm Some people build a large shed and put in a small kitchen and bathroom which can be used for entertaining later or as guest accommodation. But first you need to check with your council as many of them do not allow owners to live on site whilst a new home is being constructed. Otherwise a large caravan would be the way to go, you may be able to rent one or a mobile home? Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Re: temporary accommodation while building?? 3May 25, 2009 4:25 pm I was thinking along the lines of those portable offices/lunchrooms/classrooms found at building sites or schools. Here's a link for a company who hire them out. The benefit is that they can come with a kitchen or bathroom. I've got no idea how much they charge though. http://www.bianco.com.au/building-suppl ... chroom.jsp Good luck Re: temporary accommodation while building?? 4May 25, 2009 4:27 pm Or this mob http://www.evoportables.com.au/index.php?p=1_3 They are in QLD.
