Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 16, 2009 9:44 pm Hello all, Bit of background info - We're building a Hamilton 278 with Coral... Today I received a variation from them in the mail stating that they will not pivot my front door (Hume XS24) as it is "unavailable" so they will hinge it. I'm sorry but i'm not accepting this. It's in the tender/contract as pivoted and so it shall remain as shouldn't a pivot door be exactly the same as a hinged door? They are also now refusing to give me Colorbond downpipes despite it being in the contract. They want to provide UPVC pipes. They reason again is that Colorbond is "unavailable." I'll give them a call tomorrow. My site scrape hasn't even been done yet so I don't see the problem. Any advice? They haven't offered me a discount in price for UPVC pipes and the hinged door. Cheers. Just change from Hume to Corinthian, if Hume don't have them. Colorbond downpipes are certainly available Keep them to the contract. Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: Why is my builder refusing to pivot my front door? 8Apr 16, 2009 9:52 pm kikin borg pivit doors are extremely expensive. Colorbond is always available. Right!! It costs about $3000!!!! Which they would have included in your contract price yes? Thus they either give you $3k + some "damages" or give you the door they signed saying they would.. As if they are out of supply.. its hardly a rare commodity is it.. As for colourbond downpipes, out of stock.. send them to bunnings lol. Casa2 When it comes to make the final payment, tell them that it is "unavailable" LOL .. good idea! -------------------------------------------------------- Building in Highlands Craigieburn Status: Building the Laundryless 25.5: Slab Complete Re: Why is my builder refusing to pivot my front door? 9Apr 16, 2009 9:52 pm Some builders of late have changed from colorbond downpipes to uPVC as they believe it is better for the rain water tank systems, although you would imagine they would mention that rather than out of stock I think it could also be a cost saver for them. It even says on the variation if I don't sign and return it within 5 days, works will continue and will disregard the variation. So I will get the pivot door if I don't sign? I'll stick to my guns. I only paid $500 odd extra for the door and yes, it is clearly stated as pivot on the signed tender. Sorry late night banter as no one came up with an answer so I thought I would make it up myself. ha ha... I like your explanation better than the real one... but actually, pivot style doors are usually larger-than-normal entrance doors that instead of using a set of hinges to swing the door open, the door pivots on a pin at the top and bottom, so the door can be generally quite large and heavy, and opens fluidly (quite sexy actually)... I have seen them on a few display homes, and they are really nice... Im not sure they are worth the 3grand, but definitely makes a statement! I think you really need ot have a large/high entrance to make it work though... Re: Why is my builder refusing to pivot my front door? 16Apr 17, 2009 8:51 am I wanted at hinged with M3tricon and glass on both sides and they gave me a pivot one. I got one for free and I didn't even ask for it. Tell them to go to Corinthian! Re: Why is my builder refusing to pivot my front door? 17Apr 17, 2009 9:10 am Not sure what they are thinking when it comes to the door but in regards to the downpipes. Are you having an above ground water tank ? If thats the case the stormwater will be a charged system 95% of the time and then you require pvc downpipes. Re: Why is my builder refusing to pivot my front door? 19Apr 17, 2009 10:54 am Argh. I'm sorry you're having hassles, alk. Is it just me, or do builders in general have the attitude that we (the customer) has to lose in order for them to win? Surely, their aim should be to satisfy the customer (if their requests are reasonable)? THAT is a true win - word of mouth is a powerful tool. It is especially frustrating when the items that are causing the hassle have been in the contract and have been signed on! I can relate - at many stages in our build so far I have had people far, far down the line pick up on things and try to tell me they cannot be done. Further - they seem to have the attitude that it is "our" problem - not theirs, and that WE have to accommodate THEM! Not once has someone said "I'm sorry that this has happened. Lets work out how we can resolve it so that you can be happy with the end product". That is all that we want to hear Instead, everyone passes the buck and won't give any sort of answer at all. Good luck! Write *everything* down - correspond by email where possible. And... make sure you let us know how it goes!! 920 was enough to get the furniture in.
