Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 04, 2009 3:28 pm Which is a better side for the lightswitch, A or B. We are leaning towards A on the wall just ouside the room, however wanted to see what other peoples ideas were.
Originally the room was open plan with 4 columns, however we've added a stud wall along with 2 x 720 doors, switch was to go on the outside wall as the doors go inwards. Since then we have had the robe built in but we've had to add it for storage space in the hall as the Brookvale doesn't have much storage. Building HN Brookvale 27, at lock-up stage now. We also made it a two-way and located the other switch on the far side wall, so we could turn it on/off whilst we are in there without having to walk out of the room to do so Re: Which side for lightswitch? 3Mar 04, 2009 4:45 pm "A" for me but I like Thorney's idea too Happy at Home Re: Which side for lightswitch? 4Mar 04, 2009 5:36 pm thorney Our lounge/theatre also has double doors (bi-folds) so we put the light switch before you enter the room. Re: Which side for lightswitch? 5Mar 04, 2009 5:57 pm I hate light switches outside the room they service. If the door to the Living/Dining is closed, you have to open the door and go outside to switch the lights.
I prefer B. No not saying that it's the right way, just the way l'm doing it Like casa mentioned, if your already in the room and want to turn the lights on or off, then by just having them on the outside, it'd be a pain to open the doors (if they closed) and walk out to switch it...so l'm having one on the outside, so l can turn the light on before l enter the room (no good trying to find it in the dark on the wall behind the bi-folds) and then turn it off if l need to at the side/rear wall from the comfort of my lounge....l'm lazy like that Re: Which side for lightswitch? 8Mar 04, 2009 9:57 pm Thorney, I think that's a great idea. I might just change my plan now. I had a 2 way light also for my HT/Rumpus room, one switch was near the door outside, and the other switche was near the door inside the room. I think I should move the inside switch to the other side of the room. No point in having two switches so close together! Re: Which side for lightswitch? 9Mar 04, 2009 10:37 pm wonderland Thorney, I think that's a great idea. I might just change my plan now. I originally had just the one switch, then l added the second on the inside like you, but then figured it would accomplish nothing really. I'm having a lamp as well, so l can read in there...but didnt want to traverse there in the dark and walk into the coffee table on the way to the lounge suite...this way, l turn the light on, walk in, turn the lamp on and then switch the main lights off.....sweeeet! We never thought to have a double switch there.I like the thought of that. The new funny L shape of the room is a little annoying, although the robe only comes out about 50cm however it's less annoying than not having enough storage space. and as we won't have ever lived with it in its original form it shouldn't annoy us too much.
