Re: Built an EB Memphis28Mk3**Retaining wall, progress pics 603May 23, 2010 3:25 pm Rowena Love your work can't wait to see the finished pics. What a big job!!! You've saved thousands of dollars by doing it yourself. You must be chuffed! Thanks Rowena, The cheapest quote I got came in at $13K. DIY - I'll do it for just under $6K Yep really happy with the savings. Re: Built an EB Memphis28Mk3**Retaining wall, progress pics 604May 23, 2010 8:37 pm Do you have any tips on how to find where the stormwater pipes are (if it's not obvious)? Or did you get stormwater plans from your builder? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Built an EB Memphis28Mk3**Retaining wall, progress pics 605May 24, 2010 7:26 am My builder provided me with a drawing outlining the drainage at handover. Re: Built an EB Memphis28Mk3**Retaining wall, progress pics 606May 24, 2010 9:33 am Thanks, KnockItDown. HOPE we'll get ours ... I'm already picturing us doing some exploratory careful digging in one particular area as we'd need to take some soil off there to make it more level ... and who knows how shallow the pipes are !!! Re: Built an EB Memphis28Mk3**Retaining wall, progress pics 607May 24, 2010 10:31 am KnockItDown Rowena looking forward to seeing the pics. great work you are an inspiration to all of us who are thinking of doing our own retaining walls. Thanks Rowena - Picture of todays efforts attached. I managed to get 3/4 of the way along backfilling my 2 courses. (Actually, does it say on your drawings?! Are they really accurate?) Hi Lex, I would still hope you will dial before you dig, even if the builder did give you plans. http://www.1100.com.au/default.aspx or http://www.dialbeforeyoudig.com.au/1100/ which takes you to the above site anyway. Last thing you want is to damage a pipe or sever a cable. Even if it doesn't physically hurt you it will hurt financially.... Cheers Looking good KID btw. Re: Built an EB Memphis28Mk3**Retaining wall, progress pics 609May 25, 2010 8:02 am Hi HSV, I already used this (just before the build). From Syd Water we only got the mains sewage location (pipes which SW is responsible for), not the location of pipes which go from the house to the mains pipe. I can imagine it's going to stay like that - unless procedures have changed and SW actually has detailed plans of every single pipe on the site, and as soon as new pipes are installed and connected to mains (in kd/rebuild cases), their plans are updated with the details of new pipes. Perhaps the up to date detailed complete plan is something I can buy () from the so called Quick Check Agents (what a name! - not)? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... (Actually, does it say on your drawings?! Are they really accurate?) My drawings I got from EB were not that accurate. They took an existing site drawing and drew in pen where the pipes were laid. No measurements or depths indicated. I hit this pipe during the dig for my retaining wall foundations but luckily I did not crack it. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Just to be sure though, I applied some additional sealant to the pipe join prior to the concrete foundation for the wall going down. Yep you are right - the new stormwater pipes from the house to the the street / sewer will not be in Dial B4 U Dig's database. However, it is always good to contact them to at least get what you can from them. Re: Built an EB Memphis28Mk3**Retaining wall, progress pics 611May 26, 2010 8:42 am Thanks, KID! With that pipe, did it end up "inside" your concrete footing, or did it stay underneath it? Thinking of it, I am almost 100% sure that we'll have pipes installed quite shallow in the area where we'll need our ret. wall!! .... so I'm thinking is it OK to just pour concrete footing around it !?!??! Mine was underneath the footing so no dramas at all. You may need to consult a professional about your particular circumstances. Re: Built an EB Memphis28Mk3**Retaining wall, progress pics 614May 26, 2010 4:40 pm Gee I wish this rain would bugger off for a couple days. I'm busting to get my wall finished then it can rain all it wants. On a more positive note - my 2 x drainage pipes just had their biggest work out. These 2 pipes are not part of the house SW system they are separately laid to the gutter which is one advantage of having a corner block I guess, it's not that far and relatively easy to get a pipe to the gutter. With it absolutely bucketing down I popped out to see my drains at work and was pretty amazed at how much water was flowing out of them. Just need it to stop raining now for a little bit and I can finish the job and move onto other things. My site is pretty much at a standstill as well until the rain clears up and we get a few days of clear weather to dry out the ground. Cheers Re: Built an EB Memphis28Mk3**Why does it rain? 619Jun 03, 2010 10:46 am Mel_24_ cheerup - atleast you know that your recently installed stormwater system holds up during rain. Yep that's a positive way to look at it. I'm just keen to get the job done that's all. Re: Built an EB Memphis28Mk3**Why does it rain? 620Jun 06, 2010 3:10 pm A quick update - I am about a dozen blocks short of having all 4 courses backfilled. It's just stated to rain here again (I've turned into a Zen Master when it comes to rolling out the black plastic) so I'm happy I even got that much done over the weekend. The area left after leveling everything out is going to be great. A little deck extension of the alfresco for the oldies and a decent piece of turf for the kids to play on. Next is the fiddly little bits at either end of the wall. Need to do some minor digging, form work and concreting for the base and then I can finish this sucker off and move onto the fence, turf, and plants for this section. Ohh, and it looks as though I only need to go 4 courses with the wall which is great as I can use the left over pallet of blocks for the wall at the rear of the house. All the best - Leonard.
