Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Free upgrade to 2.9m ceilings, would you take it? 2Oct 09, 2013 6:42 pm I ask this because I know 2.7m ceiling looks great, but I've never seen a modern house with 2.9m ceilings throughout, so it's a risk.. some say it looks too cold or boxy.. what would u do? Re: Free upgrade to 2.9m ceilings, would you take it? 5Oct 09, 2013 7:27 pm I'm one of those who thinks that bigger is not necessarily better. I love 2.7 m ceilings but I think more than that in living areas often ends up feeling vast and echoey. So I'm not sure... Having said that, I think the raised door heights is a MUST. Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Free upgrade to 2.9m ceilings, would you take it? 7Oct 09, 2013 7:30 pm It's a significant cost to upgrade it usually...I would jump at the chance to get it for free! Having loftier ceilings can give a lovely feeling of space - and with the doors heights being raised for free too, you'd be mad not to I reckon Our thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64272 Purchased land August '12 Titles Jan 27 '13 Prestart - Jan '13 Re: Free upgrade to 2.9m ceilings, would you take it? 8Oct 09, 2013 7:39 pm PEARZ Lol I have to. Its part pf our estate guidelines! 2.9 metre ceilings?? What a weird requirement! Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Free upgrade to 2.9m ceilings, would you take it? 9Oct 09, 2013 7:42 pm EmyN I'm one of those who thinks that bigger is not necessarily better. I love 2.7 m ceilings but I think more than that in living areas often ends up feeling vast and echoey. So I'm not sure... Having said that, I think the raised door heights is a MUST. If you have 2340mm high doors you'll need 2.7m ceilings, otherwise it looks odd with anything lower. Re: Free upgrade to 2.9m ceilings, would you take it? 10Oct 09, 2013 7:49 pm I realise that, but the OP is talking about 2.9m ceilings. Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Free upgrade to 2.9m ceilings, would you take it? 12Oct 09, 2013 8:12 pm worktime If your builder gave you a free lower floor ceiling upgrade from 2.7m to 2.9m, would you take it? (This includes raised door heights to 2.34m ILO (in lieu of) 2.1m windows Absolutely! ...but... Ensure that all doors and window tops go up to suit (2.4m ish) This includes cupboard doors. You mention 'lower floor' so this increase will change the stair count or size or layout. Also make sure your lighting layout still suits (light power and angle spread need to be checked off). ----------------------------------------------- http://pab34newdigs.blogspot.com.au/ ----------------------------------------------- Re: Free upgrade to 2.9m ceilings, would you take it? 13Oct 09, 2013 9:33 pm Bit off topic sorry but PAB how do you work out stuff like light angles and power/lumen and number of lights required etc? Our electrical appointment is coming up and I'm a bit clueless and worried to rely on the builder only for advice. Do you know of any guide/resource to explain all this? Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Free upgrade to 2.9m ceilings, would you take it? 14Oct 10, 2013 5:18 am i would go for it we have them in the front of the house(split level an) and even more in the garages. the feeling of space is fantastic Free upgrade to 2.9m ceilings, would you take it? 15Oct 10, 2013 6:18 am We've always had these ceiling heights in Victorian and federation houses and think they are sensational. I've also recently seen them in new build and think they work just as well. If my builder had it as an inclusion I would definitely take it. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: Free upgrade to 2.9m ceilings, would you take it? 16Oct 10, 2013 6:53 am The other thing is to check overall house height, we've got 2.75m downstairs and 2.6m upstairs & even thought it's not a particularly wide house we had to have the pitch of the roof reduced slightly to get it under the maximum allowed height. Re: Free upgrade to 2.9m ceilings, would you take it? 17Oct 10, 2013 9:03 am YES!! I would definatly take it and run haha. The higher the better, always looks amazing! I had to pay quite a bit extra just to get my 2.7 high ceilings.
