They do contain Silica but only on a low level and years ago they were much cheaper than your quartz style benchtops but given now im assuming they will up their price. The biggest down fall is they can crack or even get chips on the edges if you hit them or kids playing around. They are also known to scratch when cutting on them, dont listen to the brochure about cutting directly on them it will scratch but very fine. Another issue is acidic foods or liquids will eat at the surface so when you are using so clean up straight after. They wont be able to have overhang much unless supported by frame underneath and never ever stand on them I thought this would be a popular question but I haven't been able to find any similar posts.
